SRPMIC Law Enforcement Commission

Purpose

The purpose of the Law Enforcement Commission is to aid in the effective, efficient and objective provision of police and corrections services to members and residents of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community. The Salt River Police Department and the Salt River Department of Corrections shall cooperate with the Commission in performing its duties.

Scope of Authority

The Law Enforcement Commission shall assist the Salt River Police Department and the Salt River Department of Corrections by acting as a liaison with the Community in matters involving needs and concerns related to SRPD and SRDOC.

How to File a Complaint with the LEC

All complaints shall be treated with the highest level of confidentiality.

The LEC shall accept written and signed complaints from Community members regarding the SRPMIC Police Department and/or the Department of Corrections. The LEC can assist you in writing a complaint verbatim.

When a situation arises in which you wish to write a complaint you may:

  1. Download, print, and complete the citizen complaint form (linked below) and leave at the SRPMIC Administration Department, or contact the LEC to pick up complaint. OR
  2. Call the LEC phone number any time 24 hours daily, 7 days a week to request assistance. A member of the LEC will return your call within 24 hours, between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Sunday. OR
  3. E-mail the LEC at LEC@srpmic-nsn.gov, with your name and how to contact you. Do not include details of your complaint in this e-mail message at this time.

All complaints received shall be in writing stating: the event, the date(s) of occurrence, names of parties, names of witnesses, actions taken to try to resolve the issue and the relief sought, and signed by you.

What Actions Will the LEC Take?

  • Assist individuals in completing a written statement verbatim.
  • Commissioners shall sign your complaint, acknowledging official receipt of complaint.
  • Deliver a copy of your signed complaint to the Chief of Police or Director of Corrections, and all Law Enforcement Commissioners, immediately.
  • Inquire into the nature of the complaint and determine the seriousness of the complaint.
  • Make recommendations to the Chief of Police/Director of Corrections as to possible solutions to the matter, if so warranted.
  • Communicate, in writing, non-confidential information, as well as any findings and recommendations to the complainant.
