Chief Executive Officer
Erica Speegle
CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER
A SouthernBiotech co-founder and the current CEO, Charles ensures that the company has all the necessary resources to deliver the customer and employee experiences that he has worked over thirty years to build. Foremost is his commitment to customer success, which he achieves by focusing his and his team's efforts on the prompt delivery of high-quality reagents, technical support, and antibody services with fairness, honesty, and transparency.
Charles recognizes that meeting customer success starts by nurturing personal success in-house. He has worked to create an environment where dedicated and talented people can enjoy collaborating with like-minded colleagues to achieve company objectives while pursuing an exciting and rewarding "career" rather than a "job."
Driving Charles in these endeavors is the enjoyment and deep satisfaction he derives from finding creative solutions to customer challenges. He grew up in a small town in western Alabama surrounded by self-employed people and small business owners whose self-confidence and unflagging ability to find solutions to their everyday problems continues to inspire him in both his work and personal life.
"By finding solutions to what others see as problems, you will find more success; and, you will enjoy more happiness in life."
When not at SouthernBiotech, Charles's curiosity about the natural world and the forces that shape it have led to his ongoing studies of and interest in geology, geography, history, religion, economics, politics, the financial markets and many other subjects.
"Yesterday has been spent; so, invest in tomorrow and hope for the best."
Officially, Erica is responsible for long-range strategic planning, financial planning and analysis, and human resource management. However, she has a hands-on role in driving customer success and delivering next-level service.
Her ability to quickly solve customer challenges is in part due to her fifteen-plus years of experience at SouthernBiotech, working in a variety of roles as she grew her career, and in part due to her goal-driven, results-oriented approach to life that has been shaped by years as a competitive athlete.
While not at SouthernBiotech, Erica still runs in long-distance races, ranging from 5-ks to marathons, as well as the critical short-distance event of running after her young sons.
Erica works every day to bring the words of Warren Buffet to life: "Don't just satisfy your customers, delight them."
Jaclyn is critical for ensuring that customers experience prompt delivery of high-quality products that perform consistently and accurately in their assays. She does this by keeping the different production teams connected and coordinated, making sure that inventory is at optimal levels and that any quality and manufacturing challenges are quickly solved. In keeping with the "many hats" culture at a small company, Jaclyn even gets hands-on with custom conjugation projects as well as maintenance and repair of the production team's chromatography equipment.
Jaclyn's over ten-year history at SouthernBiotech, starting as a conjugation technician and now a Production and Conjugation Manager has given her a wealth of experience and insight into the company's products, and is the foundation for her many contributions to customer success.
When not at work, she enjoys the great Alabama outdoors, swimming, boating, and watching her son play little league, as well as baking for friends and family (are her cheese straws as good as Leslie's?).

With a job title of Director of Quality, it makes sense that Leslie oversees SouthernBiotech's custom service and bulk projects. But when you're at a small company that delivers big on support, you have to wear many hats. Customers will also find Leslie on the other end of emails and phone calls, sharing her antibody expertise to help with selecting the right products for their application, troubleshooting assays, and putting them in touch with additional expertise, if needed.
Driving Leslie's prompt and knowledgeable technical support is her twenty years of industry experience, extensive hands-on flow cytometry work, all-around antibody expertise, and slight (just slight!) obsessive tendencies.
At SouthernBiotech, Leslie is also known for making the best cheese straws in this neck of the woods and is working on completing the Appalachian Trail one section at the time.
Leslie believes that SouthernBiotech is an excellent example of the Marc Andreessen quote, "There is the opportunity to do more and better if you're smaller and more nimble."

While SouthernBiotech is a fun work environment, Lara takes her responsibility for ensuring quality products very seriously, "As the Quality Assurance Manager, I provide the final approval and sign-off on all of our products. When my pen hits the paper to sign under Quality Assurance approval, I take that seriously. I want to uphold our Quality Policy and have only quality products shipped to our customers."
Lara drives the high standard of quality delivered by SouthernBiotech by overseeing and continually improving all aspects of the quality management system, from document control, training records and quality procedures to employee training and the maintenance of training records. She performs a thorough quality inspection of our products and services, and ensures compliance with local and international regulations.
Lara has always liked having a plan and a standard to adhere to, making her ideally suited to a career in quality. But she also has the flexibility and creativity to adjust when challenges arise, as they inevitably do.
Her commitment to quality and overcoming challenges can be seen in her personal life as well as her work life. She enjoys helping others, including as a volunteer helping children and young adults with developmental disabilities.
"None of us, including me, ever do great things. But, we can all do small things, with great love, and together we can do something wonderful." Mother Teresa
