Get a safety inspection report (pink slip)

Introduction

Most light vehicles more than 5 years old will require a safety inspection report before they can be registered in NSW.

Light vehicles include trailers and caravans with an aggregate trailer mass of 4.5 tonnes or less, including those fitted with breakaway brakes but not including those fitted with air or vacuum breakaway braking systems.

NSW safety inspection reports are only valid for 6 months, excluding public passenger vehicles.

What you need to know

• Your registration renewal notice will state whether or not you need an inspection.
• You will need to renew your vehicle registration within 6 months for the safety inspection report to be valid.
• Only an Authorised Inspection Scheme (AIS) station can do a safety inspection.
• If your vehicle passes the safety inspection, your provider will send the inspection report to Transport for NSW electronically. If it does not, find out what happens if your vehicle fails a safety inspection.

2. Enter your suburb or postcode in the search tool to find an AIS station.
