Learn About Treatment for Mental Health, Drugs, or Alcohol
Body
There are many treatment options and support services to address mental health needs, as well as drug or alcohol use.
There are three main types of treatment:
- Outpatient, meaning you have an appointment and leave the same day. This is usually for ongoing treatment or maintenance of your condition. Outpatient appointments can be short or last most of the day.
- Inpatient, meaning you stay at a hospital or treatment program overnight for a few days or weeks.
- Residential, meaning a treatment program where you live there for at least a few weeks.
Treatment and support services are provided by licensed health care professionals, like doctors and social workers, or by community health workers, peer support specialists, or crisis counselors. In addition to treatment, there are support groups and local programs.
