Title

Other Drugs, Prevention, and Addiction

Prevention stops problems (such as substance use or misuse) before they start. Prevention promotes health, wellness, and well-being. There’s a science to what works in prevention ― including SAMHSA’s Strategic Prevention Framework (PDF | 3.3 MB), prevention planning manuals, prevention toolkits (PDF | 2.7 MB), and registries of proven interventions.

Drug addiction is a complex disease. Drugs change the brain, in ways that make it hard to quit.

There are treatments (including counseling and medications) that help people recover from addiction. And for some, medications can help sustain recovery.
