I joined Elsevier, the STM business of RELX Group, in 2011 as the Regional Director of Asia Pacific for the Research Reference Books business.  I am based in Singapore and lead a team of 23 people across Asia Pacific to manage a large and successful business.

My team’s focus is to support researchers in academic, government and corporate institutions to advance their research to solve many problems that we face around the world today and to improve the quality of life for many. These include dealing with climate changes, developing new ways to address the problem of food supply, finding the cures for various diseases, using technology to improve our environment. The list goes on…

I spend most of my time engaging with leaders of academic institutions, policy makers and leading researchers. I show them how our work provides the foundational knowledge to empower researchers to increase interdisciplinary research and thereby help them to increase their research output and productivity.

My team runs several eBook Forums across Asia Pacific each year to provide a platform for academic and government librarians to learn from each other’s best practices and the latest developments and trends. They also organise an average of five publishing workshops each month to educate early career researchers on how to get published and avoid common mistakes. We also participate in international conferences and Resource Days at corporate institutions to provide training for corporate researchers to help them to optimise the use of our solutions.

Each year my team will focus on using new technology, tools and analytics to demonstrate the value of our solutions and to provide more useful data points to support our customers. The analytics incorporated in our proposals help librarians and resource managers to prioritise their budget and investment options. Customer satisfaction is at the core of all their activities and also a key motivation for the team.

I am a mother of two and have to travel extensively for work, so I do not have as much time as I would like to volunteer for charities – but I am a proud supporter of our RE Cares programme which helps under-privileged communities through fund raising and other community activities.

In the past few years, my team and I have participated in many fund raising activities to support several charities. We have helped build a school in Laos and visited the school to donate books and necessities. It is through initiatives like this that makes me and my team feel proud to work for RELX.
