1. What causes plague?
Plague is a bacterial infection that occurs in rodents, some other animals and humans. Bacteria Yersinia pestis causes this disease which is usually found in many parts of the world. If fleas carrying the bacteria bite you, you may get the plague.
2. Can it spread from person to person?
Plague is an infectious condition that can spread from person to person. Pneumonic plague spreads by inhaling the respiratory droplets of the person suffering from the plague. It may be transferred if you are in close contact with the infected person. If you are handling a dead body of the infected person, you should take care as infection can be transferred.
3. What are the symptoms of plague?
The symptoms of plague, according to different types, are as follows: Bubonic plague: sudden fever, chills, headache, vomiting, pain in the abdomen and swelling of lymph nodes. Septicaemic plague: the skin turns blue on toes and fingers and results in gangrene and multiple organ failure. Pneumonic plague: chest pain, cough and pneumonia (infection in the lungs and respiratory tract).

5. Is plague completely curable?
All forms of plague can be treated and completely cured if there is an early diagnosis and treatment. If you suspect plague it is necessary to visit the doctor immediately. If not treated on time, you may have severe complications and even death.
