Overview

The Crime Control and Prevention District has been established per Chapter 363 of the Texas Local Government Code, after being approved by a majority of the voters.  The District collects a sales and use tax at a rate of one-half of one percent (1/2 cents).

At the approval of the board, the District may finance all the costs of a crime control and crime prevention program, including the costs for personnel, administration, expansion, enhancement and capital expenditures.  Additionally, the funding may include police and law enforcement programs, community-related crime prevention strategies, and other necessary staff.  A majority of voters must reapprove the District every ten (10) years.
