Burglary & Theft Division

The Burglary & Theft Division is under the command of Lieutenant M.P. Jackson who answers directly to Assistant Chief John Dombrowa. The division is directly supervised by Sergeant G. White and operates within the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. The division members work eight-hour shifts, five days a week, primarily Monday through Friday. Situations that require the services of a detective outside normal business hours are handled on a call-out basis.

Crimes Handled

The Burglary & Theft Division investigates all crimes that require follow-up investigation from burglary to vandalism. The division routinely conducts follow-up investigations associated with preliminary investigations done within the patrol division, typically generated from calls for service or criminal activity that was actually witnessed or discovered by the officer in the course of duty. Detectives generally work "after the fact," gathering information to identify and ultimately apprehend perpetrators of a wide variety of crime. They routinely engage in the following activities:

  • Case preparation for trial
  • Crime scene search
  • Documentation
  • Evidence collection
  • Interrogation
  • Interview
