Jerry Wright is deeply rooted in the community of Pasadena. He has lived here all his life and has raised a family here. Jerry graduated from Sam Rayburn High School in 1990 and attended San Jacinto Community College. Jerry joined the Pasadena Police Department in 1991 as a civilian dispatcher. In 1996, Jerry was accepted as a cadet in the 46th Pasadena Police Academy. After graduating, he worked as a Patrol Officer, becoming a Field Training Officer and a member of the Bicycle Patrol unit.

In 1999, Jerry worked as a detective in the Special Crimes Command, investigating crimes against children and juvenile-related crimes for over twelve years. Though challenging and heart-wrenching at times, this assignment was one of the most rewarding of his career. In addition, he worked as an investigator in the Domestic Violence Division and the Sex Offender Registration Unit. Jerry also served as one of the Department's polygraph examiners for over ten years.  

Jerry was promoted to Sergeant in his 20th year with the Department. He served on Day Shift Patrol and was later selected for the position of Administrative Sergeant in the Chief's office. In 2013, Jerry was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. He was assigned to Night Shift Patrol and was given the responsibility of the Field Training program, the K-9 unit, and the DWI division. In 2015 through 2019, Jerry served as commander of the Narcotics Division and the Gang Intelligence Unit. 

Jerry is a graduate of the 264th Session of the FBI National Academy. Jerry also graduated from the University of Charleston, West Virginia, with a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership. Jerry holds a Master Peace Officer's certification.

In 2019, Jerry was appointed to the rank of Assistant Chief. In his tenure as Assistant Chief, Jerry's assignments and responsibilities have encompassed all areas and divisions of the Department. 

Among the most memorable team projects Jerry has participated in were those that focused on Field Training, Personnel Selection, PSO Command rebuilding, and departmental Mentor and Development programs.

In October of 2023, Mayor Jeff Wagner named Assistant Chief Wright as Interim Chief of Police. Mayor Wagner appointed Jerry to Chief of Police on November 21, 2023.
