About The Museum

Visitors and Pasadeneans can get a glimpse of the city’s rich history by visiting the Heritage Park & Museum. With a population of more than 150,000, Pasadena is Texas’ 20th largest city. Today, our city’s attractions include Armand Bayou Nature Center, El Jardin Beach, historic Crown Hill Cemetery, Kemah Boardwalk, NASA’s Space Center Houston, the Port of Houston and one of the world’s largest refining and chemical manufacturing complexes. However, many people overlook one of the most important elements of Pasadena’s rich heritage--the city is the actual birthplace of free Texas, as the final fighting of the Battle of San Jacinto took place in 1836 in the area of Vince’s Bridge and the site of the current Crown Hill Cemetery.  A group of soldiers under Sam Houston destroyed the bridge over Vince's Bayou, preventing the Mexican Army from escaping to the west, resulting in the capture and surrender of the Mexican General, Santa Anna.

We have come a long way from our roots as a small agricultural outpost just over a century ago. Guests can tour the historic Pomeroy House, Strawberry (Parks) House, Miss Anna’s House and Edna’s House (Museum), as well as enjoy the picnic tables under the tall trees. While touring, they can view distinctive antiques and memorabilia from the area’s first settlers in real life settings, and hear the amazing stories of perseverance and commitment that helped build Pasadena into the strong and thriving city that it is today.

The Museum also has a reading room in Edna’s House that includes binders of historical photos, newspapers, writings, books, and many other items of historical significance that visitors can enjoy during their visit. If you have items of historical significance and want to share them, the museum has a program where you can loan them to the Museum for a specific period for display (Deed of Loan). The Museum also appreciates the donation of historical items for permanent inclusion in its collection (Deed of Gift).
