Before being placed on the market, all products labelled with the German Bio-Siegel (hexagonal sign) must be notified to the Bio-Siegel Information Centre of the Federal Agency of Agriculture and Food (BLE) in accordance with the German Eco-Labelling Ordinance.
The unlawful use of the organic label can be penalised as an administrative offence by imposing certain fines.
Along with the notification of use, please do submit the respective product labels or sample menus (in the fields of communal catering and gastronomy), designed with the Bio-Siegel. Please note that your notification can only be processed once these have been submitted. When creating the product labels, please observe the design regulations for the Bio-Siegel.
There are two possible ways of notifying the Bio-Siegel use:

An online notice is the quickest and simplest way to notify label usage. Register here in the Bio-Siegel database.
For a first registration, please enter all the required data regarding your company.
You may publish part of your data in the Bio-Siegel database to inform interested consumers and companies, namely your company’s contact information and the type of business. You can agree to their publication by selecting the "ja (yes)" option under the data field "Daten veröffentlichen (Publish data)”.
Obtain your login details via the data field "speichern (save)":

Your password must consist of a minimum of eight characters, upper and lower case, and must contain at least one figure.
Access the first product entry via the data field "speichern (save)":

The data fields "Produktbezeichnung (Product designation)", "EAN – Nummer (EAN number)", "Menge / Inhalt (Quantity / Content)" and "Kontrollstelle (Control body)" refer to the information given on the product label / packaging layout. Under "Nutzungsbeginn (Start of usage)", please enter the date as of when the respective product shall be marketed with the Bio-Siegel. Under the field "Daten veröffentlichen (Publish data)", you may choose whether or not the product entry shall be published. A publication shows only the number of products your company notified out of the respective product groups. We shall not publish further details regarding your product.
For each registered product, please upload the product label / packaging layout designed with the Bio- Siegel at the designated place. If there are several labels per product (e.g. front, back and side labels), please combine them in one PDF file and please be advised that we need the complete label, even if the Bio-Siegel appears only on one side of the product packaging.

If you would like to indicate the use of the Bio-Siegel on menus, displays for counters, buffets etc., please select the product group "Gastronomie / Außerhausverpflegung (Gastronomy / Out-of-home Catering)" here. You can enter e.g. "Various organic foods and beverages" or "Various organic food components" as the product name ("Produktbezeichnung"). Enter "variable" in the data field "Menge / Inhalt (Quantity / Contents)". At "Nutzungsbeginn (Start of use)", please enter the date from when the respective product is to be used with the Bio-Siegel.
Please upload a sample of your menu, display or similar at the designated place.

You have now successfully registered your company in the Bio-Siegel database. Your customer number is displayed in the heading. Please always quote this number in any correspondence with us.
You can update your company data via the "Adresse (Address)" field. Accesses to your account can be managed via the "Ansprechpartner (Contact person)" field, where you can add as many people as you wish to have access to your account. A company must indicate at least one contact person.
You can manage your product notifications via the "Produkte (Products)" field. Add new product notifications (via "Neues Produkt erfassen (Add new product)"), and delete or adjust existing product notifications, e.g. upload an updated label.

In the field "Type of business", you can select several options if required.
The "Information regarding products bearing the Bio-Siegel label" refers to the information given on the product label / packaging layout. At "Start of use of the Bio-Siegel", please enter the date from when the respective product with the Bio-Siegel is to be marketed.

Please be advised that, without the product labels, we can neither process nor release your product notification for the use of the Bio-Siegel.
Once the complete documents have reached us, we shall establish an account for you in the Bio-Siegel database and shall transfer your notified products to that account. Following that, in order for you to be able to manage your products yourself, we shall send you access data to your database account by mail.
Irrespective of the form of your notification, following its review by the BLE, we shall inform you by e-mail as soon as your products have been released for the use of the Bio-Siegel.
Please update your account in the Bio-Siegel database regularly. Changes regarding products, e.g. the control body or the product label / packaging layout must be updated in the database. Please delete products, which are no longer manufactured and marketed from the database.
Once you have established an access to the database with your own password, via the online notification, you shall be able to update and expand your entries yourself. If you registered via the Bio-Siegel Information Centre (in case of a written notification), we shall send you the information required to access the database and to manage your data by post.
