Portrait of Jacey Fortin

Jacey Fortin

I cover a wide range of subjects including extreme weather, court cases and state politics all across the country. I often report on breaking news, with a goal of adding as much background and context as possible.

I joined The Times in 2017. Before that, I was a freelance reporter working in Ethiopia, South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of The Congo. A fellowship with the International Women’s Media Foundation brought me to New York, where I am now based. I have also lived in Massachusetts, Arizona and South Carolina.

The Times has an extensive ethics policy, which I follow. I strive to be fair and accurate in all of my coverage. I always give subjects a chance to express their side of a story, and I try my best to earn the time, and the trust, that my sources give to me.
