On July 11, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. (ET), Dr. Mahasin Mujahid, Professor at the School of Public Health, University of California, Berkeley, will present her work on the social and structural determinants of maternal health and health disparities and risk reduction interventions to address the complex and growing morbidity and mortality concerns.
Join NINR as we bring leading experts in systems and models of care to share their knowledge at an upcoming NINR Director’s Lecture. Dr. Lusine Poghosyan, Stone Foundation and Elise D. Fish Professor of Nursing at Columbia University, and Dr. Ellen-Marie Whelan, Chief Population Health Officer, CMS Center for Medicaid and CHIP Services, will be presenting research priorities and the practice and policy implications of nursing research through the systems and models of care lens.

Motivated by her work as a trauma nurse, Dr. Sara Jacoby’s NINR-funded dissertation used ethnography to explore the experience and perceptions of Black patients with traumatic injuries.
Having more nurses can increase patient safety and improve quality of care, yet hospitals often differ in the number of nurses they have per patient. A recent study, funded in part by NINR, examined variation in patient-to-nurse staffing in NY hospitals and its association with adverse outcomes (i.e., mortality and avoidable costs).
