“Dr. Stevens is a highly accomplished administrator and leader, with more than a decade of hands-on experience in NIH policies and processes,” said NIDCD Director Debara L. Tucci, M.D., M.S., M.B.A. “His expertise and strategic foresight make him an ideal selection for NIDCD executive officer.”

Dr. Tucci commended Lisa Portnoy, NIDCD deputy executive officer, for her outstanding interim service as acting executive officer.

Before joining NIDCD, Dr. Stevens was the deputy executive officer at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, where he advised the executive officer on administrative management, strategic planning, administrative policy, and workforce development. Prior to this, Dr. Stevens was the lead management and program analyst in the NIH Immediate Office of Management, where he advised senior officials on complex administrative, financial, and risk management issues for several high-level programs and projects. Dr. Stevens has also served as lead administrative officer for the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences and the National Cancer Institute, and as a budget analyst at the National Eye Institute. He began his NIH career in 2009 as an intern in the NIH Administrative Fellows Program.

"I am excited to join NIDCD’s talented leadership team, and I look forward to contributing to the institute’s successes," said Dr. Stevens.
