Meghan O’Neill, M.D., FAAP, is a neurodevelopmental disabilities physician who joined IDDB as a medical officer in 2023. She oversees aspects of the NIH-wide INCLUDE (INvestigation of Co-occurring conditions across the Lifespan to Understand Down syndromE) Project and is involved with other programs in IDDB.
Prior to joining NICHD, Dr. O’Neill established and directed the Lurie Children’s Down syndrome clinic in Chicago. She was an assistant professor at the Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine and worked in the Division of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics and the Division of Child Neurology at Lurie Children’s Hospital, where she specialized in the comprehensive clinical care of children with a variety of neurodevelopmental disabilities. She has authored several peer-reviewed publications and book chapters on intellectual and developmental disabilities and Down syndrome, has given local and national talks on neurodevelopment in Down syndrome, and is an involved member of the Down Syndrome Medical Interest Group.
Dr. O'Neill received her medical degree from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She then completed a general pediatrics residency at Lurie Children's Hospital/Northwestern, followed by a 4-year neurodevelopmental disabilities combined residency/fellowship at the Kennedy Krieger Institute and Johns Hopkins Hospital. She is triple board-certified in general pediatrics, neurology with special qualifications in child neurology, and neurodevelopmental disabilities.
