Authors at the event posing with their books.

Summer break is a great time for kids to choose their own reading material. DPI worked with local children's literature authors to give away books on the state capitol grounds. In all, nine authors signed and gave away books to local elementary school students. Games and a bouncy castle were also provided at the free event, as was live music. The North Dakota State Library set up a booth to give information on how children can use the library system. Ms. Sparkle, local literacy advocate, read stories for groups of kids. Even the unpredictable North Dakota weather cooperated, though once or twice the wind was turning kids' pages for them!
