Why is home insurance important?

Whether you are a first-time buyer or an existing homeowner, protecting your home is important. Having the right cover in place means that if anything was to happen, a fire, flooding or a water leak, you could be protected.

Having Buildings insurance is a condition of our mortgage offer, but you don’t need to buy it through NatWest and it doesn’t affect how much we’ll lend you.

Common customer questions…

Home insurance actions

When should I buy or review my insurance?

If it’s your home, your building insurance should be in place at the point you exchange contracts with the seller of the property as this is when you become legally obliged to buy.

How much should I insure my home for?

As you apply for buildings cover, you’ll be asked to enter a rebuild cost of your property. This is the cost you would have to pay to completely rebuild your home from ground up.

What does home insurance cost?

The cost of home insurance varies. For buildings, some of the key considerations that drive that cost will be the rebuild value and whether you live in an area prone to flooding.
