About the Editors
Chief Editor | Ashley York, DPhil, Springer Nature, UK, ORCID
Ashley earned a first class degree in Biology at University College London, UK, before completing a DPhil at the University of Oxford, UK. During his doctoral studies at the Sir William Dunn School of Pathology, he examined the molecular mechanisms of influenza virus genome replication under the supervision of Ervin Fodor. He then joined the Laboratory of Retrovirology at The Rockefeller University in New York, USA, as a Postdoctoral Fellow, where he worked with Paul Bieniasz to study intrinsic immune proteins that restrict HIV infection. In 2016, Ashley began his career in science communication, joining the editorial team at Nature Reviews Microbiology as an Associate Editor. He subsequently took on the roles of Senior Editor and Acting Chief Editor before becoming Chief Editor in 2022.
Ashley is based in London, UK.
Senior Editor | Andrea Du Toit, PhD, Springer Nature, Germany, ORCID
Andrea obtained her PhD in molecular and cell biology from the University of Cape Town (UCT), South Africa, investigating the mechanisms of crosstalk between the glucocorticoid receptor and GPCR signalling pathways. During her postdoctoral studies she continued to research novel mechanisms of rapid, non‑genomic reciprocal receptor crosstalk, and she also developed an interest in crosstalk between the HIV-1 Vpr protein and the host glucocorticoid receptor in modulating host and viral gene regulation. In 2012, she decided to pursue her career in science publishing and joined the Nature Reviews Molecular Cell Biology team before moving to Nature Reviews Microbiology.
Andrea is based in Berlin, Germany.
Senior Editor | Agustina Taglialegna, PhD, Springer Nature, UK, ORCID
Agustina studied Microbiology at the National University of Rio Cuarto, Argentina. She earned her PhD in Biotechnology studying protein-mediated cell–cell interactions of Staphylococcus aureus biofilms in the laboratory of Inigo Lasa, under the supervision of Jaione Valle at the Public University of Navarra, Spain. Agustina then moved to Houston, Texas, for postdoctoral studies in the laboratory of Adriana Rosato at The Houston Methodist Research Institute (Texas Medical Center). There, she focused on studying the molecular mechanisms by which methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) clinical strains gain resistance against different antibiotics and their relation to virulence. Agustina started her career in publishing at Nature Microbiology in January 2020 working first as an Associate Editor and then a Senior Editor before moving to Nature Reviews Microbiology in November 2022.
Agustina is based in London, UK.
The Reviews Cross-Journal Editorial Team works across the Nature Reviews portfolio, as the need arises, handling content in the life, clinical, physical and social sciences.
