INTERNSHIPS AT THE GALLERY

INTERNSHIPS
AT THE GALLERY

Be a part of Singapore’s largest visual arts museum!

Have a passion for the arts? Consider an internship at the National Gallery Singapore!

The Gallery oversees the largest public collection of modern art in Singapore and Southeast Asia. We also work with leading museums worldwide to co-present Southeast Asian art in a wider context, positioning Singapore as a regional and international hub for the visual arts.

Interns can expect to gain meaningful insights on how the different departments collaborate to work on an exhibition/ programme together and potentially be part of the behind-the-scenes work. Your internship experience will deepen your understanding and interest in the arts scene, and for you to explore a possible career path in the arts!

As a Gallery intern, you can look forward to being assigned to one of the following divisions/departments, subject to role availability and department needs:

  1. Curatorial, Research & Exhibitions / Curatorial & Collections: Assist in developing or implementing long-term or short-term exhibitions by contributing to research on Southeast Asian art and curatorial practice. Be involved in the development of the Gallery’s artwork and Library & Archive’s resource collections.
  2. Curatorial Programmes: Support the development of podcasts, online courses and research publication on Southeast Asian art. Gain experience working with artists and museum specialists locally and internationally.
  3. Artwork & Exhibition Management: Gain experience and knowledge in the Collections Management team on various materials used in artwork mounting, mounting-making techniques and artwork installation.
  4. Library and Archives: Be involved in the entire process of archiving and archive collection development from research, annotation, cataloguing, digitization and administration. Participate in developing the user experience of our website, search portal and other resources, therefore developing greater access to our archive collections.
  5. Audience Engagement: Support the development and implementation of interdisciplinary programmes across different exhibitions for diverse audiences and commissioned artworks for family audiences.
  6. Community & Access: Support the team in community engagements, planning, programming, execution and evaluation of our community programmes and access initiatives. Learn operational aspects for community groups for digital and physical access to the Gallery.
  7. Learning & Outreach: Assist in co-developing and implementing programmes and resources to engage families and young audiences, ranging from 0 to 21 years old. Collaborate with partners and stakeholders to implement focus group discussion and develop engaging outreach materials to raise awareness and build communities.
  8. Integrated Marketing: Understand how the Gallery approaches marketing and communications for exhibitions, festivals and other programmes. Develop skills around content strategy, planning, development and creation.
  9. Sustainability (Part of Facilities Management and Operations): Gain first-hand experience on how sustainability is practised in the Gallery and support decarbonisation and sustainability initiatives.

In addition, you will also have the opportunity to participate in at least one programme/ activity by another Visual Arts Cluster (VAC) institution.
