Federal Pell Grants
We do not permit federal loans. Our students use federal Pell grants, which do not have to be paid back.
September 1st marked the beginning of the 23/24 Award year.
Students that plan to be enrolled September 2024 should fill out the 24/25 FAFSA that opened December 31, 2023.
How to Accurately Fill Out the FAFSA
The FAFSA, or Free Application for Federal Student Aid, is a form that students fill out to apply for federal financial aid. In order to award eligible students with grants, the government assesses the information that is included on the FAFSA. Apply at https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa

How do I get a FSA ID?
Obtain a FSA ID by going to https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa . You’ll be prompted to create a username, choose and answer security questions and create a password. You will need this password to electronically sign your FAFSA and/or make changes.
OK. I have everything. What Next?
Answer all questions truthfully. Here are a few tips:
- Read the Household size questions carefully. There are help “buttons” along the way to help you through the application if you have questions.
- Be sure when prompted to add a school that you put in our school code: 013531.
- If you have an ITIN number, but not a SS#, put in all zeros (000-00-0000). Do not enter your ITIN number in the FAFSA.
- Review your FAFSA thoroughly, electronically sign it (along with your parent(s), if applicable), and click submit.
- We can process your FAFSA in just a few days.
Veterans Affairs
Veterans, active duty service members, and other persons eligible for veteran’s benefits must first enroll for benefits with Veteran Affairs (VA). The student must first complete the VA application for benefits and be declared certified by the VA to obtain funding. The VA prefers individuals to apply for benefits online https://benefits.va.gov/gibill/.
Those attempting to obtain benefits are required to comply with the eligibility requirements of the VA before funds can be distributed. To apply for Educational benefits please apply here: https://benefits.va.gov/gibill/
Should Veterans, active duty service members, and other persons eligible for veteran’s benefits not follow the steps required by VA to have education funded the student may be required to pay for their tuition out of pocket.
Submission of the DD-214, copy of VA certificate of eligibility, and completed College online application are required by the student. Please communicate with the College VA Liaison-Monica Clifton with any questions mclifton@mooretech.edu.
Veteran protection under: PL: 115-407 section 103 - Any covered individual will be able to attend or participate in the course of education during the period beginning on the date on which the individual provides to the educational institution a certificate of eligibility for entitlement to educational assistance under chapter 31 or 33 (a “certificate of eligibility” can also include a “Statement of Benefits” obtained from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) website – eBenefits, or a VAF 28-1905 form for chapter 31 authorization purposes).
Tennessee Promise
Tennessee Promise a statewide program that allows graduating high school and home school seniors the opportunity to earn a degree or certificate from a community or technical college regardless of financial status.
Introduced in 2015, Tennessee Promise is a scholarship, mentoring, and community service program that began fall semester of 2015. It provides students a last-dollar scholarship, meaning the Tennessee Promise will cover tuition and fees not covered by the Pell Grant, the HOPE scholarship, or TSAA funds. Students may use the scholarship at Moore Tech to obtain an associate degree. While removing the financial burden is key, a critical component of Tennessee Promise is the individual guidance each participant will receive from a mentor who will assist the student as he or she navigates the college admissions process. In addition, Tennessee Promise participants must complete eight hours of community service prior to each term enrolled, as well as maintain satisfactory academic progress (2.0 GPA) at their institution.
Who is eligible?
- Tennessee resident
- Graduate from an eligible TN high school or home school program, or, prior to 19 years of age, obtain GED or HiSET diploma.
