Gay tourists wishing to visit Russia will need to be particularly vigilant after the implementation of anti-gay 'propaganda' law. They face up to 15 days in prison and deportation if they are caught "promoting" homosexuality, for example while holding hands or kissing (July 2013).
Moscow is no longer this big concrete block cold and colorless as in the days of the USSR. Today the city is vibrant and colorful! A large development program was established to make Moscow a welcoming destination for tourists and residents. It is a city rich in culture: Orthodox churches, museums, large squares, gardens, ... even its subway stations are true works of art! Moscow is the city of excess, everything is huge: the avenues are gigantic, impressive Stalinist buildings, museums are among the largest in the world and the churches are highly visible with their giant colored bulbs. But Moscow knows a few obstacles to its modern development: the cost of living is very high, the paperwork is very heavy, the authorities still very severe and this discourages many tourists. Homosexuality is also a sensitive issue in Moscow. The country does not show the same tolerance as in other European countries and remains very repressive against the expression of his homosexuality. But few gay bars and gay-friendly are present outside the city center but still quiet. These institutions train may be the beginnings of a long march towards greater equality and tolerance.
