About Buenos Aires Pride

Buenos Aires is considered one of the gayest cities in all of Latin America, so it makes sense that its annual pride packs a punch. Today, Buenos Aires Pride (most commonly referred to as Marcha del Orgullo LGBT de Buenos Aires) attracts a staggering 100,000 people from across the globe each year, but it wasn’t always this way.

The first LGBT March of Buenos Aires first took place in 1992, under the direction of Carlos Jáuregu, who brought roughly 300 people together to celebrate pride in the city. Many wore masks in order to conceal their identity, due to LGBTQ rights and openness being less prevalent at the time.

While pride enthusiasts can now be out and proud on the streets during Buenos Aires Gay Pride, many still like to come in festive, colorful fancy dress costumes. The parade normally takes place at the start of November to commemorate the founding of Nuestro Mundo (Argentina’s first gay association) in 1967.
