Health Insurance Open Enrollment: If You Need Health Insurance Coverage in Michigan, Help is Here

Health insurance isn’t just for when you’re sick or hurt, it’s also important to help you stay healthy and to protect yourself from unexpected high medical costs.

This site contains information about health insurance, how to get covered, and how to use your coverage to keep yourself and your family healthy.

Open Enrollment for 2025 health insurance runs from November 1, 2024 through January 15, 2025. Consumers must select a plan no later than December 15, 2024 for coverage to start on January 1, 2025.

Open Enrollment gives Michiganders the chance to take advantage of savings that can help make insurance more affordable. For 2024, nearly 90% of enrolled Michiganders qualified for a subsidy, with many finding a plan for less than $10 per month.

Consumers who missed the still need health insurance for 2024 may qualify for a Special Enrollment Period if they experience a qualifying life event, such as a birth, job loss, or divorce. In addition, Michiganders who qualify for the state's Medicaid or MIChild programs can apply at any time. For help getting started, and to review their eligibility for these programs, consumers should visit Healthcare.gov/lower-costs.

Outside of that time, a special enrollment period may be available if you have experienced a qualifying life event, such as a loss of coverage or job loss.

MI Bridges

Depending on income and other factors, coverage may be available through Medicaid and the Healthy Michigan Plan.

Medicare

Medicare is health insurance for people 65 or older. You're first eligible to sign up for Medicare 3 months before you turn 65 and 3 months after the month you turn 65. There are certain situations where you may be able to sign up for Medicare during a special enrollment period, for example if you lose employer-provided health insurance.
