NOAA orders next generation of hurricane hunter aircraft

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration announced recently it awarded a contract to Georgia-based Lockheed Martin Aeronautics for two specialized C-130J Hercules aircraft. The planes are expected to join NOAA’s fleet by 2030.

Space station crew returns to Earth

NASA astronaut Tracy Dyson and Roscosmos cosmonauts Nikolai Chub and Oleg Kononenko returned home from the International Space Station. Their Soyuz MS-25 spacecraft had a parachute-assisted landing on the steppe of Kazakhstan. Dyson concluded her fourth spaceflight with the landing of the Soyuz. Dyson's mission spanned 184 days, 2,944 orbits of the Earth, and a journey of 78 million miles. While on orbit, she conducted an array of experiments and technology demonstrations that contribute to advancements for humanity on Earth and NASA’s trajectory to the Moon and Mars.

First-ever private spacewalk

Billionaire entrepreneur Jared Isaacman and SpaceX employee Sarah Gillis step out of the SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule for the first-ever private spacewalk. SpaceX's Crew Dragon craft will slowly depressurize its entire cabin - it has no airlock like the ISS - and all four astronauts will rely on their slimmed-down, SpaceX-built spacesuits for oxygen. For the spacewalk, Isaacman and Gillis will exit the spacecraft tethered by an oxygen line while Scott Poteet, a retired U.S. Air Force lieutenant colonel and SpaceX employee Anna Menon stay in the cabin.
