Our HR interns had an unforgettable summer experience! 🎨🍷 Last month, they joined Flatbush residents in Brooklyn for a fun-filled Paint & Sip event. Joseph Matos, MPA, HR Manager, who used to work at Flatbush before joining the HR team, helped facilitate the event. Katherine O. and Luke Alexander had a blast getting to know the residents, learning about their lives, and witnessing the incredible work YAI does for the disability community firsthand. Their enthusiasm and openness were contagious! #YAI #internship #hr #community #inclusion #nonprofit #paintandsip #brooklyn #flatbush #idd #disabilityawareness

Interns are at increased risk due to the inherent power imbalance with their superiors. In many cases, interns are not considered employees. Therefore, they are not protected by government legislation or workplace policies. This creates a dangerous environment that is often exploited. As this summer comes to a close and New York City gears up for the upcoming school year, we’d like to shine one more spotlight on this year’s incredible PACT summer interns! This year, we had the biggest group of PACT summer youth interns yet. Here’s some of what they had to say about their experience: “A key source of knowledge that I acquired from the internship is the power of clarity. I would say a lot of the things stated at PACT were things that I heard before but hearing it again and learning more about it (such as boundaries and how trafficking can occur) was informative and took me out of a box of not just knowing, but now UNDERSTANDING.” “The internship succeeded my expectations because I really didn’t think I would have anything much to provide when it comes to non-profit work/anti-trafficking work, since I had no prior knowledge about it. But I think I now have a better understanding of different career paths and the internship even shaped my future career goals a bit as well. I truly felt connected to the work I had done and the people I had met, so I really did just love my time during the internship.” “My career goal is to work in the healthcare industry. This internship was able to prepare me for my future path by providing me with more emphasis in mental care, rather than just physical care. I also learned how to identify when a child is “not okay” or being able to sense when someone is in harm's way.” Until next year! UK companies have a big problem. We've spoken to countless firms who tout their commitment to 'returnships'*, only to discover that they're on-boarding just 1-2 women per year (!). Is "returner-washing" a term? If not, it should be...👀 Talented women are being denied work at a fair pay and skill level, and companies are missing out on millions of qualified female candidates. So, why isn't there a tech solution to solve this? 🤷♀️ Enter ivy. (*Returnships: Internships designed for returners, typically spanning 16 weeks and culminating in a permanent job offer. These programs are often burdensome in terms of time and administration, maintaining a traditional in-person, 5-day-a-week format.) #returntowork #careerbreak #femalereturners #womenreturners #genderpaygap #genderequality #worklifebalance #futureofwork #femalefounders
