Helping changemakers navigate burnout ✨ Leadership Coach I Mindfulness Teacher I Speaker I Nonprofiteer
Putting the feelers out for my nonprofit friends who want to collaborate on a virtual monthly, confidential zoom call focused on: 1. Creating space to share our stories and what's been helpful around preventing and recovering from nonprofit burnout 2. Building collective power to address the systemic oppressions that are stealing our rest and joy (in small group discussions) If you're interested, all are welcome. Please comment or send me a DM if you're interested in getting involved! And if you know others who are speaking out about nonprofit burnout - please tag them into this conversation so we can find each other, build community, and support each other. If you're experiencing or recovering from nonprofit burnout, I'm sending you love and compassion. The majority of us nonprofiteers have been there, and it's not your fault. This is a pervasive systemic issue, and it's time for us to work together to change how we are doing the work and supporting ourselves and each other. 💛 This is a clip from a recent LinkedIn Live I did with Tasha Van Vlack, founder of The Nonprofit Hive, which is an amazing free community where you can connect 1/1 with folks virtually. 🎥 Link in the comments to the full recording. #nonprofit #burnout #community #mindfulness #socialjustice

Philanthropy advisor specializing in guiding women in their giving journeys and supporting families as they bring the next gen in to their collaborative giving
Over the past couple days I’ve been listening to Dan Harris and Kasley Killam, MPH talk about the importance of social health. We’ve know about physical health for decades and mental health is now finally getting the attention it deserves as well. However, there’s a third crucial piece, and that is social health—our relationships and connections. Two things have come to mind as I’ve listened to the conversation. 1. I’m so glad volunteering is promoted as a way to make social connection. (Remember, volunteering is giving time is philanthropy.) I know it has been for me. I’m reminded of one winter break I couldn’t get home to my family because of flight issues. Instead of sitting at home feeling sorry for myself, I found a place I could volunteer. I spent an afternoon with tens of other volunteers. Some were prepping food. Others were setting tables. I had the best job of all…wrapping presents for kids. And this little bit of helping someone else and connecting with others was just the infusion of spirit I needed right then. 2. The other thing that came to mind as Dan and Kasley talk about deepening our relationships and conversations is my incredible professional network at the Purposeful Planning Institute. From the very first Rendezvous I attended 11 years ago, it was clear this was a community unlike any other. Conversations got deep quickly and connections were forged quickly. I learned to stretch myself and be open and vulnerable in ways I hadn’t before. I’ve vacationed with friends I made through PPI. I have monthly zooms with some colleagues who have become dear friends. I’m proud to be a part of this community and grateful for how it has supported me in my personal and professional growth. So, I encourage you to take a listen to this episode of the Ten Percent Happier podcast and think about 1. How am I connecting with others? Which of these tips might I integrate in my life? and 2. How is the social health of my clients? Is this a place we might need to spend some time talking? Link to the episode is in comments. A recent study published in the Industrial Relations Journal revealed that various employee well-being initiatives, including mindfulness, resilience, and stress management programs, did not show significant improvements in mental health. Surprisingly, the only exception was volunteering for charitable causes. This suggests a need for more effective strategies to address employee well-being in the workplace.

Continue readinghttps://lnkd.in/gtfnbvGp

Fundraising can be demanding, requiring long hours and constant pressure to meet financial goals. However, it is crucial to prioritize self-care to prevent burnout. Setting realistic expectations for yourself and seeking support from your community can help you maintain a healthy work-life balance. Remember that you are not alone in this journey. Reach out to your colleagues, friends, or mentors for support and guidance. Building a strong network of like-minded individuals can provide you with the encouragement and motivation you need to keep going. Burnout can negatively impact your effectiveness in fundraising efforts and overall well-being. Your health is just as important as your mission to make a difference. Take care of yourself, both physically and emotionally, so you can continue to make a difference in the world through your fundraising efforts. Don't forget to celebrate your accomplishments and acknowledge the impact you are making in the world. #FundraisingWellness #PreventBurnout #NonProfitLeadership #SelfCare #VeritusGroup

Strategic Advisor to Philanthropists & Foundation CEOs | I help ultra-high-net-worth donors and foundation leaders increase the clarity, impact, and joy of their giving.
Sometimes, being at your desk all day isn't productive. I once had a conversation with a foundation executive who shared an interesting perspective. He admitted to being extremely busy, rarely leaving his office during the workday. While such a practice may be suitable for day trading, it's far from ideal for philanthropy. Why? Because philanthropic investments thrive on face-to-face interactions. Engaging in direct, personal connections is how donors and grantees build trust in one another. It is through these interactions that we gain a deep understanding of the needs, players, and potential solutions in our communities. Building trust is a crucial step in tackling the pressing challenges we face. So, if you truly want to make an impact and foster meaningful change, it's time to get out there! Step away from your desk and venture into the community. Meet with those directly affected by the issues you seek to address. Listen to their stories, perspectives, and insights. These interactions will shape your understanding and help you develop effective strategies. Remember, philanthropy is not a solitary endeavor confined to an office. It's about actively engaging with people, forging connections, and collectively working towards a better future. Be sure to like, share, and comment if you agree! #Philanthropy #CommunityEngagement #MakingAnImpact
