This is a very short post on gamified teaching and learning.
A couple of years ago, my collaborative learning science Prof argued that learning can occur in a serious gaming setting and students can master learning as well as, if not better than, acquisitional teaching and testing. He idea was not well taken by parents and teachers.
Fast forward 5 years, how far sighted and forward thinking he is!
Here, I found myself learning and speaking German through a gamified platform like Duo-Lingo
1. For adult learners, it makes learning an achievable task in terms of time - own time own pace.
2. Serious learning can occur in a seriously fun way - happy thoughts = wanting to learn more.
3. In wanting to learn more, I wanted to "clear more challenging game stages" = learners wanting to read, explore and experience complexity as a self desired learning goal
In summary gamified learning can be a self directed learning affordance!
