Safeguarding privacy on Tor
- [Instructor] Tor does an excellent job at preserving the anonymity of web users, but there are some safeguards that Tor users should take in order to remain anonymous. First, you should know that Tor only provides encryption within the Tor network. You are responsible for ensuring that the connection between the Tor exit node and the destination server is also encrypted. The easiest way to do this is to configure Tor to only use HTTPS connections. I'm back in the Tor browser, and I'm going to access the settings. From here, I'll click on Privacy and Security. Here, I can scroll through a lot of settings that provide different privacy and security options. Down at the bottom, I'll see HTTPS-Only Mode. This will ensure that you only use encrypted connections between the exit node and the destination server. As you can see, this is set to enable HTTPS-Only Mode by default in all windows.
