How can you manage difficult stakeholders in your network security projects?
Depending on the scope of your project, there may be stakeholders from non-tech roles that you need to keep in the loop. Usually there are at least a couple, particularly if your project involves any downtime that may impact their work. It’s important to acknowledge that they are not tech experts and may have questions along they way that you think are “basic.” Don’t get frustrated (or at least don’t show your frustration). Speak their language as much as possible. Use plenty of layman’s terms and don’t go into technical details with the stakeholders. It’ll keep them from exploding at you, while making them feel like they are a valued player.

How do you test telecommunication systems for security?
As mentioned in my comment under Security testing methods, defining rules of engagement is extremely important if you need a penetration test. Additionally, scoping is a very important factor that isn’t really talked about in this article. It deserves its own section, as this can get pretty involved, depending on the environment setup.

How do you test telecommunication systems for security?
Penetration testing should never rely solely on automated tools (which are generally called scans). Pen testers will use a combination of automation and manual methods to find and exploit security flaws. In addition to a well-defined scope, it is important to define rules of engagement for the tester. For example, if the test is in a production (“live”) environment, you may not want them to bring the environment down or to download/modify confidential data - just report the flaws and be prepared to demonstrate them.
