Great point 🧬 🤖 ⚙️ Alex Iskold! End of the day, the deck is an exercise of storytelling. The story should be able to be told in a set of sentences. We recommend a similar approach to building a deck for fellows in the Startup Leadership Program NYC. Here is what we suggest: Rather than starting with a deck, start with 12 to 16 individual bullet points in a simple doc. If this is your first time making a deck, you may have 20+ bullets, and you will learn where to zero in while doing this exercise. You will get to the slides, but DO NOT START WITH SLIDES. Getting simple bullet points is hard at first because the story is unclear. That's the point of getting the bullets first. Focusing on just words means no wasted time formatting graphics, etc. When the visuals of a deck are not in question, we must do the ACTUAL work: clarity, narrative, and synthesis. That means both the content of the bullets and the sequence they are in. As a metaphor to film, think about this like storyboarding before getting on set and shooting a movie. The goal: I should be able to read the bullet points in sequence, understand exactly what the business is, and get excited. Each bullet is a point that the founder is asserting. In sequence, each successive point drives the conclusion that this is a great business within an attractive market that the founder understands. The story sets up the context and presents a path forward that investors want to fund. So, how do we get the deck?! Eventually, each bullet point becomes the title of a slide. That works much better than having a generic slide title that says "The Problem." Instead, the problem slide can say, "The ICP wastes X hours a week on Y, leading to Z costs." Every bullet point needs to make a conclusive point, assuming that it will be believed. That's what "asserting a point" means. Once we can assert a set of 12 to 16 conclusive points, we can move on to building slides that provide context and offer supportive evidence. Every step of the way, brevity is key. Dropbox DocSend data shows that a pitch deck is read in 3 minutes, so there is no room for deep research. We have to find a concise way to prove our assertion visually. That said, this is much easier to say than to do. When you're an expert working on your idea every hour of the day, you live in the details. Selecting which details to put forward can be harrowing. How do you know what bullets to use? What details to add? I love to show my bullets to startup friends who are not deep in the business and see what stands out to them. Sometimes, things may seem important, but they don't need to be shown; they could be discussed if asked. Something helpful to remember when making these bullet points is that their job is not to get an investment but to get a meeting. If we create 12 to 16 slides that can be read in 3 minutes and lead an investor to say, "I want to know more," it's a great success!

IDEATE on content topics and thoroughly prepare. Be intentional and formulate a concrete shooting plan. This can include video topics, storyboarding, branding, and questions for the participants. You want to focus primarily on execution during the event, so it’s key to get the preparation in order. CAPTURE your event in a versatile manner. Now that you have your content plan, you can focus on 1) DOCUMENTING the event and 2) CREATING original content at the event. You want a fair balance of both so you can produce versatile videos (short form, interviews, hype video, recap, long form) with original b-roll. EDIT your raw assets into usable content. Think carefully about how you want to distribute the content. Fast-paced short form is great for organic social while more cinematic shots can serve as promotional reel for future events and sponsor activation. DO NOT post anything raw. If you don't have at least 3 months worth of data from your organic social media marketing efforts, stop. 🛑 It takes time to see substantial analytical data with organic social. Growth and change are typically gradual. I know this is frustrating, because many of us want answers immediately. But if you'll just give it a little more time you'll be able to better reflect on what efforts worked best. At my company, we create quarterly reports for our clients. And honestly, we get the best information after working with them for 6 months. It might be fun to check numbers often. Go for it if you like that sort of thing. I write YouTube Scripts in under 30 minutes. These scripts attributed to $108,000+ in cash collected for my client Daniel Fazio. Here’s how I do it: Step 1 → Ideas An idea will make or break a video because even if the editing is top notch no one will watch something they're not interested in. This is why we come up with ideas first. I use VidIQ to analyze search volume and competition for certain topics to confirm a video idea has potential. VidIQ won’t always give accurate information which is why we always cross verify the data. Once you have decided on a video idea you can move to… Step 2 → The title The goal here is to create an attention-grabbing title that is relevant to the video and something the video can deliver on. This way you're building an audience that trusts you and is ready to watch every video you put out. Stay away from AI generated titles or titles that are too clever. I always create titles that are comparable to a well optimized sentence. This will improve SEO as viewers aren't searching up words but instead sentences. Step 3 → Hooks For B2B audiences your hook should be quick and to the point. It should IMMEDIATELY validate a viewers decision to click the video. This means no long or boring introduction. Hook first, explain next. Step 4 → Outline the Body Unlike your hook or outro that should be scripted mostly word for word you should keep your body down to a few main bullet points. This is going to keep you on track but also sustain a natural and more entertaining flow to your content. This thread can be an example of a good script, you have the bullet points for each step and then I can freely write to give as much value as possible. After you have the main bullet points I like to add sub bullet points to talk about so I'm not having to hopefully remember all of the points I wanted to talk about within the main bullet point Step 5 → Outro Outros aren't a time to just close the video its your time to promote a CTA. I always end with a CTA to watch more videos which will warm them up to me and also show the algo my content is good. Directly after promoting an extra video to watch, show off a lead magnet or landing page that is relevant to the content you just put out to drive traffic and generate leads. This is a MUST-WATCH for any brand owner who wants to understand how TikTok Shop creators think... from a creator who made $167k in the last 30 days. This creator uses two approaches when choosing which brands to work with 1. What products are already going viral that have many OTHER creators with high view count videos 2. What products (with a high commission rate) have a high 'viral potential' that you could see yourself making content for This seems obvious but her breakdown is so thorough and largely done in the TikTok app When the creator finds a product she's aligned with, she'll look if the brand is giving a free sample, she'll then look for how competitive the commission rate is and then, very importantly, analyses the performance of other creators on TikTok Shop with that product Why does this matter so much? If you're able to make TikTok Shop work for a handful of creators it will create even more virality and demand for your product within the ecosystem There's a second video that I will post a link for in the comments below that breaks out TikTok's new Creator Search Insights This is an extremely powerful tool for creators that very notably shows 'content gaps' Aka where there is high search volume in similar domains to your content that is underserved This is basically your TikTok Shop arbitrage If you're a brand not on TikTok Shop, it's time to get on. If you are on TikTok Shop I would be closely monitoring these content gaps from the accounts of your best creators and finding the most underserved searches in your domain
