Congrats to the Vectech, Inc. (Techstars '23) team on incredible progress over the last year since completing the Techstars Equitech Accelerator!
So happy to share updates from two of our portfolio companies from last year’s Techstars Equitech Accelerator in partnership with UpSurge Baltimore. Vectech, Inc. (Techstars '23) is building solutions that support pest control organizations in their mission to end vector-borne disease, agriculture loss and economic loss caused by pests. The team has secured ~$2.9M in NIH funding to expand its technology to ticks and partnered with Launchport, a local Baltimore manufacturer, to produce its IDX product. Richualist – whose all-in-one tech-enabled appliances make styling textured hair faster, easier, and more convenient – has raised half of its $1.1M funding round and is closing the remainder through investor salons in DC, NYC, LA, and Dallas. The company recently began testing its product with L'Oréal for a potential brand partnership and won Technical.ly Baltimore's Invention of the Year and an innovation grant from Shea Moisture in December 2023. Yesterday, several members of the Vectech, Inc. (Techstars '23) team attended the Mid-AtlanticTick Summit 13 at the National Wildlife Visitor Center in Maryland! Ticks and tick-borne pathogens are on the move in the US. Roy Faiman had the opportunity to share how Vectech’s work is supporting tick surveillance efforts in public health. Thanks to the planning committee for a great meeting! #PublicHealth #VectorControl #Entomology #ComputerVision #BlackFly #midatlanticticksummit13 #Vectech

Last week, our entomologist Roy Faiman traveled to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania for the 20th Annual North American Black Fly Association (NABFA) Meeting. Dr. Peter Adler's Black Fly taxonomy workshop was a highlight of the trip. So much to learn! Roy also presented Vectech's state of the art IDX system. Could AI someday aid black fly taxonomic ID? Special thanks to Carey LaMere and Tadhgh Rainey for their invaluable insights and for putting this together! #VectorControl #Entomology #BlackFly #PublicHealth #ComputerVision

Congratulations to Roy Faiman and the Vectech team who recently published a short communication on recent observations of Aedes aegypti in Maryland. The sightings highlight the importance of surveillance in informing vector control decision making. Read the full paper in the Journal of Ecology and Environmental Sciences: https://lnkd.in/gVd2VkMw

Last week, Vectech's #entomologist Roy Faiman attended the 2023 NORTHEASTERN MOSQUITO CONTROL ASSOCIATION INC meeting in Mystic, CT. Highlights from the meeting included: •Roy Faiman presented on advancements with the IDX and how AI can support better data collection for mosquito surveillance programs •Hearing how climate change and especially rain fall is changing the mosquito species diversity and abundance, and how increased warming is pushing southern species northward. •Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) is on the rise, vectored by multiple mosquito species likely too. •Numerous insightful presentations delivered by highly esteemed individuals. We're excited to serve the Northeast with Vectech's innovative mosquito identification technology and are looking forward to joining #NMCA at next year's meeting. Today, we are spotlighting the work of Jaykob Cave-Stevens, one of our R&D engineers. In this video, Jaykob is starting a print on one of our FDM printers that we use to rapidly prototype custom parts. We do this for parts in multiple projects.
