September is Newborn Hearing Screening Awareness Month! There are many different ways to test a child’s hearing, such as letting them sleep. Since newborns and infants aren’t able to raise their hand for traditional hearing screenings, pediatric audiologists use a test called an Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) to assess a child’s hearing while they sleep. Every year Texas Hearing Institute’s Melinda Webb School participates in the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA) Walk4Hearing event—a nationwide campaign that raises awareness and brings hope to people with hearing loss in 21 cities across the United States.
