  • Congratulations to our two latest GME Champion recipients Dr. Carol Monis and Dr. Mary Robichaux! Graduate Medical Education leadership wrote, "I’d love to nominate Dr. Monis for exemplary dedication to GME. She was the key fellow in restarting the GI panel coverage by having the fellows really accommodate and support the patient panel and attendings beyond what I’d expect a fellow to do. She goes well above and beyond what is required or expected. In addition, Dr. Monis has leveraged her institutional knowledge (having also been a resident here at RCH) to really help set our GI fellows up for success. I can’t imagine another staff member that’s keener on making HCA RCH a better place! Dr. Monis has been an amazing teacher and role model for our residents. She goes the extra mile for her patients and the IM residents and has always a smile on her face!" "I am thrilled to nominate Dr. Mary Robichaux in recognition of her outstanding contributions to our residency. She is an active member of the RAC and GMEC, and an administrative resident. Dr. Robichaux has excelled as a skilled surgeon and compassionate physician, advocating tirelessly for patients and demonstrating exceptional rapport with them. She improved the block schedule and clinical schedules at RCH which have significantly enhanced the work and learning environment. Moreover, her efforts to improve the culture in L&D and foster better relationships between residents and OB Hospitalists have been invaluable. Dr. Robichaux truly embodies the qualities of a dedicated and impactful leader, making her a deserving candidate for this award." Congratulations and thank you Dr. Monis and Dr. Robichaux!

  • Yesterday, we welcomed 33 new StaRNs to our team! The StaRN New Graduate Nurse Residency Program is a year-long program designed to give hands-on experience to help establish valuable clinical and critical thinking skills. Graduate Nurses are surrounded by a supportive community of nurse educators, experienced nurses, and fellow residents that promote learning, clinical application, and socialization, shepherding them through the transition from student nurse to registered nurse. We're so glad you all have chosen Riverside Community Hospital and HCA Healthcare to start your nursing journey! Welcome aboard! #newgradRN #starn #nurseresidency

  • Heart Huddle! Amy S., RN on South 5 “My grandmother had the privilege of Amy being one of her nurses for two days. Amy was, hands down, the best nurse she had. She was incredibly kind, caring, and compassionate to my grandmother. Grandma was coming to the end of her cancer journey, and did not want to be in the hospital, but was dehydrated and also needed a procedure. She was getting grouchy, but Amy was very calm and gentle with her and treated her as if she were her own mother or grandmother. Amy advocated for her to get the procedure timely as that was one of the last pieces we were waiting for discharge. At the end of her last shift with my grandma, Amy’s goodbye was so genuine and heartfelt; I teared up and felt the true connection. It made me feel so good to know that she cared just as much about my grandma as I do! Amy is truly an amazing nurse and made a huge difference in our journey at RCH. I am thankful that she was part of our experience.” #CareLikeFamily #HeartHuddle

Our leadership rolled up their sleeves yesterday to kick off our annual flu shot clinics for colleagues and physicians. Doctors recommend everyone 6 months and older in the United States, with rare exception, should get a flu vaccine every season. Talk with your doctor if you have any concerns and get your flu shot! #fightflu

  • Heart Huddle! Evelyn E., RN on G6 A colleague wrote, “Evelyn had a patient that had been on G6 for a couple of weeks and had plans to be discharged to a rehab facility. The patient had a change in breathing and heart rate that concerned her. Evelyn stayed by the patient's side and advocated for all the tests the patient needed. The patient could not use the call light due to his stroke and she refused to leave him in case he needed something. Because of her monitoring, we were able to accurately see what was going on. The patient went in for an urgent thrombectomy and was able to discharge to the rehab facility a few days later. Per Dr. Mar, Evelyn probably saved his life. The patient and the family are very grateful for the hard work and care Evelyn and the doctors were able to show to them.” #hearthuddle #bringingyourhearttowork
