We’re pleased to announce that Omaha Public Schools has expanded its contract with Zūm to allow Zum’s revolutionary technology platform to benefit all K-12 families and schools, including the special education students who receive transportation services on OPS’s 285 district-owned and -operated buses. In July 2024, Zum successfully launched its school bus transportation contract of 255 buses, delivering safe, reliable transportation service for OPS’s general education routes. With this expansion, families of special education students will also be able to use the Zum app to receive real-time notifications, track school bus locations, view driver and vehicle information and cancel same-day rides.  “We are thrilled that Omaha Public Schools has extended its contract so that every student and parent will experience Zum’s state-of-the-art technology, designed to improve safety, communication, efficiency and equity,” said Ritu Narayan, Founder and CEO at Zum. “It is a game-changer to know where your child’s bus is and whether they arrived at school safely and on time–especially if you are the parent of a child with special needs. At Zūm, we put the safety of students and drivers first. In recognition of National School Bus Safety Week, here are some tips for families to ensure school bus safety: Keep a Safe Distance: When waiting for the bus, students should stand at least 10 feet away from the edge of the road. Always Cross in Front: Students who need to cross the street when getting on or off of the bus should always walk in front of the bus, never behind it. Most importantly: before crossing in front of the bus, students should wait for the driver’s signal to cross. Do Not Pass: Motorists are required by law to stop for stopped school buses that are displaying flashing red lights and a stop arm. Never pass a stopped school bus. Shine Bright: Bright clothing and reflective gear on jackets, shoes, hats, and backpacks increases a student’s odds of being seen by drivers, especially if students are traveling at dawn or dusk. Meet Your Kids at the Stop: Those adults or family members who meet children at the bus stop after school should wait on the side where the child will be dropped off, not across the street. This morning Zūm Founder and CEO Ritu Narayan is participating in Fortune Most Powerful Women 2024, an annual summit in Laguna Niguel, Calif., welcoming preeminent women business leaders as well as leaders in government, education, philanthropy and the arts. Narayan is a featured speaker for “Building More Sustainable Cities,” a panel discussion examining ways leaders are working to create a sustainable, equitable future. Other panelists included Elizabeth Baker Keffer, Executive Vice President and Chief Relationship Officer, U.S. Chamber of Commerce; Nancy Mahon, Chief Sustainability Officer, The Estee Lauder Company; and Rebecca Tinucci, Global Head of Sustainability, Uber.
