We’re investing in innovation and technology to advance our recycling capabilities, increasing efficiency, improving quality and enhancing safety in our facilities. In 2023, we completed equipment and technology infrastructure projects at 11 recycling facilities, adding robotic arms and AI camera systems, among other improvements. #SustainabilityInAction

Our Sustainability Services group can help customers achieve their sustainability goals. For example, we developed a waste diversion plan for a retail customer with a presence in 30 states. The customer now has a recycling solution for its polyethylene film, which is converted into plastic pellets that are used to produce new materials. #SustainabilityInAction

Did you know that not all recyclable materials can be managed through a traditional recycling process? There are a number of items, including glycol, oil and aerosol cans that require special care for safe recovery. Our teams operate several specialized recycling facilities to recover these materials and ensure they can be reused. We were honored to partner with Houston Habitat for Humanity, Inc. to support the ongoing development of Robins Landing, an incredible master-planned community in Northeast Houston. Thanks to a National Neighborhood Promise® grant from the Republic Services Charitable Foundation, volunteers contributed to the creation of a central greenspace featuring a fitness trail with exercise stations along the walking paths. This project was part of a larger initiative to build 468 single-family homes and 500 multi-family units, centered around a 12-acre park that promotes healthy living and community bonds. We're proud to have played a role in fostering this vibrant neighborhood and can't wait to see the positive impact it will have on residents' lives. #SustainabilityInAction

Our Emergency Response Services are an important part of protecting people, property and the environment. In 2023, a freight train traveling through Montana derailed on a bridge crossing the Yellowstone River, causing the bridge to collapse and 10 tanker cars carrying asphalt materials to land in the river. Within hours, the U.S. EPA called in emergency response teams, including ours at Republic Services. Over a two-month period, more than 150 members of our team helped remove over 230,000 pounds of asphalt from the Yellowstone River. Republic Services offers 24/7 response by certified experts for incidents on roads, in water and on rail. On October 19th, we partnered with Urban Corps Of San Diego on an exciting revitalization project. Municipal leaders, employees, local nonprofits and community members volunteered to join this large-scale cleanup effort at the Otay Valley Regional Park, which was funded by a National Neighborhood Promise® grant from the Republic Services Charitable Foundation. We're proud to have made a lasting impact on this community and look forward to seeing the park thrive for years to come. #SustainabilityInAction
