With almost 55 years of commitment to a healthier community, we are proud to care for more than 80,000 patients.

About us

Established in 1968, we are the largest primary health care provider in Providence and treat patients regardless of their ability to pay. PCHC is committed to building upon our longstanding history of providing primary services such as prenatal care, pediatrics, adolescent medicine, adult medicine and elder care. In meeting the growing needs of our current and future patients, we also provide specialty care, school-based services, and community-focused patient education. We dedicate ourselves to collaborating with government agencies and other organizations to meet the medical and service support needs of the families and individuals that we are privileged to serve.

  • This year's Rhode Island Mission of Mercy was the most successful one ever, delivering a record number of procedures for a record number of patients. Each of those individuals was in need of dental care and we were proud to be part of the effort along with our partners from Delta Dental of Rhode Island and the Rhode Island Oral Health Foundation. Watch here to learn about the impact of this life-changing annual free dental clinic. Thank you to our partners and all the volunteers! https://lnkd.in/ekz8eSBH

  • More than 80,000 people rely on Providence Community Health Centers for care. Our patients are often facing challenging circumstances, including difficulty accessing care. Here is a story from our dental team about a woman who was not a patient of ours and found herself in a desparate situation. Our team recognized a human need and helped this woman with her pain and medical issue. It's why we're here. #communityhealth #FQHC #RhodeIsland #healthcare

  • Providence Community Health Centers was the site of a press conference earlier this week hosted by Senator Jack Reed to advocate for the Advancing Menopause Care and Mid-Life Women’s Health Act — a bipartisan bill aimed at reducing stigma, expanding research, and enhancing public awareness around menopause. Sen. Reed was joined by (from left to right) Renee Eger MD, FACOG, MSCP, Director of the Midlife Center at Women & Infants Hospital, our President & CEO Merrill Thomas, and PCHC Certified Nurse Midwife and Title X Clinical Program Coordinator Stephanie Avila to discuss the urgent need for greater research and education on menopause and mid-life women’s health. To learn more about this legislation, which marks a critical step in ensuring women have the care, education, and support they need during this important phase of life, please click the link below: https://lnkd.in/e4rnPYYw

  • The Rhode Island Mission of Mercy (RIMOM) adult dental clinic delivered again in its tenth year, providing oral health services to almost 500 people who would otherwise have struggled to access care. The clinic, a partnership between the Rhode Island Oral Health Foundation, Delta Dental of Rhode Island, and Providence Community Health Centers, took place on October 5 and 6 on our Prairie Avenue campus. Since its founding, the Rhode Island Mission of Mercy has provided more than $3 million in donated oral health services to Rhode Islanders in need. This was the fifth Mission of Mercy hosted by Providence Community Health Centers and the first to utilize our newly-opened adult dental clinic. Services offered at this year’s clinic included routine cleanings, X-rays, fillings, root canal treatments on front teeth only and tooth extractions. For the first time in five years, the clinic also offered partial denture services. All services were provided on a first-come, first-served basis by a team of more than 250 licensed dental and medical professionals. Thank you to all our partners and volunteers for making this critical community event a reality.

  • Dr. Jon Dooley has spearheaded a program at Providence Community Health Centers to get bike helmets on the heads of young patients – with the goal of reducing injuries and increasing activity. Thanks to the generosity of Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island, the program has thus far distributed more than 200 helmets. A pediatrician at our Chafee Health Center, Dr. Dooley said many young people struggle with obesity, which gives the program two goals: increase the amount of time children spend on their bike or scooter and ensure they are doing so safely. Dr. Dooley will be looking to replicate the program, which focused on patients at our Chafee Health Center, on a larger scale next year. Thanks to Dr. Dooley for initiating this effort to build healthier habits in children and to Neighborhood for supporting this effort.
