Delve into our interactive “Live Emotion” gallery to explore some of the most iconic venues across sport, live performances and other major global events from the past 40 years. Our unique design history has acted as the backdrop for much bigger stories and moments — those of community, sustainability and passion — for four decades and counting. As we commemorate this milestone, we want to say thank you and celebrate with you, the individuals across the world who fill these venues with the emotion that gives them meaning. Three projects, three awards, one vision: building community. We’re excited to share that we’ve been awarded three 2024 Design Excellence Awards from AIA Kansas City.🏆 From high-performance training facilities to reimagined fan experiences, each award-winning design serves its community in unique ways. 💪 Cleveland Clinic Global Peak Performance Center This elite facility is set to be a game-changer for the Cleveland Cavaliers. Built along the Cuyahoga Riverfront, it will fuse world-class sports medicine with an advanced training space designed for both athletes and the community. The center reflects a substantial investment in the long-term sustainability and success of Cleveland’s athletes. 🏈 Oregon State University's Reser Stadium An iconic symbol of Beaver football pride, Reser Stadium combines Pacific Northwest resilience with a modernized spectator experience. By completing the west side, we provided OSU with an innovative, year-round venue that supports students, athletes and Corvallis locals (and keeps fans dry on rainy game days!). 🐔 Chicken N Pickle Pickleball meets community in this versatile space. With areas to gather around a fire pit, enjoy live music, or share a meal with friends, Chicken N Pickle is a community destination that blends play and connection. The role of new technologies and artificial intelligence has sparked intense debate within the architecture field, brimming with both anticipation and risk. Senior Principal Andrew Tulen helped alleviate some of the uncertainty around the use of advanced technology when he joined a panel of experts at the 2024 FIND - Design Fair Asia. Andy advocated for the need for 'humanness' in generative design, highlighting how embracing change and harnessing technology can enrich human experiences, promoting a sustainable legacy for architects now, and for future generations. #design #architecture #AI #generativedesign

The Toki Row captures Brooklyn’s historic charm with luxe details, while JetBlue at The Key features a striking 44-foot media wall, tap beer and tables repurposed from past Nets courts. This marks the beginning of Barclays Center’s commitment to bringing premium, unforgettable experiences to fans and concertgoers alike. An environmental world-first for Stade de la Meinau stadium in Strasbourg, France as the first prototype fuselage section to be positioned across the new South Stand has now been installed. ✈️🏟️ Work continues on the renovation of the Stade de la Meinau stadium. The innovative design for the new South Stand - created by Populous as lead architect, alongside local practice rey - de crécy - uses upcycled fuselage sections of decommissioned Airbus A340 aircraft to create a sun shade or ‘brise soleil’ covering 4050 m² across the rear of the stand. We are delighted to announce that Populous has been appointed as the architect to create a masterplan for Wrexham AFC's STōK Cae Ras stadium, with an initial focus on the redesign of the new 5,500 capacity Kop stand. “We’re extremely proud to be appointed to work on the new Kop stand and to explore the potential for a wider vision and masterplan for the future STōK Cae Ras. Our aim is to create a home for Wrexham’s passionate fans and the community that pays tribute to the heritage and traditions of the Club and the City itself. The Kop stand will be the epicentre of the atmosphere at the ground on matchday, while incorporating enhanced facilities that can be used every day throughout the year.” - Declan Sharkey, Global Director and Senior Principal. https://bit.ly/4fdb8DE

It’s a special day in Kansas City. Today we host the Populous Intelligence (Pi) Conference, our annual global thought leadership forum that brings together design representatives from the Americas, EMEA and APAC regions. The Pi Conference embodies entrepreneurial creativity and enjoyment, two of Populous’ core values. While the event’s purpose is simple, its impact is far-reaching. Pi Conference is a space for learning and collaboration for their own sake, fostering curiosity and creativity while bringing our global colleagues together. As the event commences, I am reminded of the firm’s fundamental mission: drawing people together. What does it mean to Design with Purpose? This question inspired the theme of this year’s Populous Design Week, which kicked off today at our global headquarters in Kansas City, Missouri. The event consists of three key elements: Populous Intelligence (Pi) conference, an incredible keynote presentation from Behnaz Farahi and our Global Design Reviews (GDRs). Design Week is an evolution of the Pi Conference, which began in London in 2016 as a celebration of global collaboration and the exchange of ideas. The Global Design Reviews are a cherished Populous tradition. They allow us to celebrate our work and the stories behind it. As a key element of our collaborative culture, GDRs inspire continuous innovation and sharpen our storytelling. Interested in participating in these events in the future? Populous is proud to have partnered with the Western Bulldogs on the design management of Whitten Oval. Since it's reopening, the game-day experience has been elevated, transforming how fans engage with this year’s AFLW season. The upgraded venue features several enhancements, including AFLW home and away change rooms, state-of-the-art elite training facilities, and a upgrade to the iconic EJ Whitten Stand, now housing administration offices. The oval has been resized and resurfaced to mirror Marvel Stadium’s specifications and now has a overall spectator capacity of 10,000, including 914 seats in the EJ Whitten Grandstand.
