"Nobody wants to get a nasty text message during the middle of the day. This puts a stop to that. It takes the kid out of the virtual world and back into the real world." - Dr. Charles Gallo, Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Education, Poughkeepsie City School District 📚🌟 With the introduction of the Yondr Program, Poughkeepsie High School students are leaving distractions behind and focusing on their studies. Teachers and students alike report that the shift has led to meaningful interactions and a better school experience. As one senior put it, fewer distractions means more time for learning and connecting with classmates. Read more from the Hudson Valley Press at the link in comments.

We are delighted to announce that Stamford School is now a Smartphone free space for children aged 11-16. At the start of the new academic year, we introduced the Yondr system across our Senior School, for children in Years 7 – 11. The Yondr system uses a simple, secure, lockable pouch that stores a student’s phone. Every student secures their phone in a personally assigned Yondr pouch when they arrive at school in tutor time. Students maintain possession of their phones but cannot use them until their pouches are unlocked and opened at the end of the school day. Students are required to bring their Yondr pouch to and from school each day and are responsible for their pouch at all times. Senior Deputy Head at Stamford School, Andrew Murphy, comments: “The Smartphone Free Childhood movement is something we are fully in support of at Stamford. 70% of our parents approved of the idea following parent consultation, so back in June we began to prepare for the roll out ready for the new academic year.  All our students have Surface Pro devices; therefore, following the successful roll out of this in 2020, we have no need for smartphones in lessons. “The aim of the Yondr pouch within the school space is to minimise distractions in lessons and maximise learning potential. Student engagement in the classroom has increased already, as has student behaviour. What has been particularly noticeable, however, is that we now see children enjoying spending quality time with their peers at break and lunchtime, without the worry of whether they have missed out on something on social media.” YONDR Charlie Lovell Smartphone Free Childhood Mark Steed Amy Lindley

“Schools that use Yondr pouches are seeing more meals eaten in their cafeterias because kids feel better about eating when they are not being recorded.” This is just one of the many benefits that Yondr school partners are experiencing through phone-free education. By reducing distractions, schools are fostering an environment where learning and personal connections can truly thrive. Visit overyondr.com to learn more.

Yondr was honored to attend NYSUT’s Disconnected Conference last Friday! Our CEO and Founder, Graham Dugoni, had the privilege of participating in a panel on digital literacy. It was an inspiring opportunity to discuss the impacts of cellphones, social media, and technology on education, learning, and mental health with nearly 500 engaged attendees. Thank you to everyone who contributed to such a meaningful conversation! You can watch the full recording of the conference at the link in our comments.
