The Academic Success Initiatives unit empowers learners to thrive academically, personally, and professionally. It provides an inclusive environment dedicated to building authentic relationships and community, fostering meaningful learning experiences, and collaborating with learners as they pursue their passion and purpose. In keeping with the mission of the University, the Academic Success Initiatives advocates for all Monarchs and actively supports their pursuit of excellence at ODU and beyond. Housed inside the Student Success Center building, the Academic Success Center (ASC) empowers learners to thrive academically, personally, and professionally.     Brain dump - Buddy - Book. An opportunity for retrieval practice in a lesson. Step 1 students recall information from long term memory about the topic & fill in the first column. Step 2 involves students talking to their partner or peers, to collect any additional information for the second column. The final step involves learners using their class book, textbook or knowledge organiser to self assess (checking & correcting their work) and adding any further relevant information.

    When we master our time, we can master anything: Feeling swamped with endless tasks? It's a common issue that hits productivity hard. On average, most people are only productive for about 3 hours in an 8-hour workday. (Atlassian) Your busy day doesn't have to end in frustration. Use these 4 time-tested methods to win your workday: 1. Pomodoro Technique:    - Focus for 25 minutes, rest for 5.    - After 4 cycles, take a longer break.    - Rinse and repeat. 2. Eisenhower Matrix:    - Sort tasks by urgency and importance.    - Do, Decide, Delegate, or Delete.    - Clear priorities mean clear focus. 3. 3-3-3 Method:    - 3 hours of deep work on major tasks.    - 3 smaller goals for momentum.    - 3 maintenance tasks to keep life smooth. 4. 2 Minute Rule:    - If it's quick, do it now.    - Bigger tasks? Break down, delegate, or defer. Each method has its merits. Try one or combine them for a powerhouse approach to your workday. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Scholars program is hiring for two positions aimed to help prepare underrepresented, low-income, and first-generation undergraduate students prepare for PhDs! This is an incredible opportunity for two dynamic indivduals to influence life long positive change and growth by helping students learn about research and engage in intensive research processes. You will have the opportunity to travel the country with students to professional conferences to present research, engage with stakeholders on and off campus, develop workshops for students, manage the faculty mentoring component, attend research symposiums, and so much more.
