We were honored this week with a special dedication from the U.S. Postal Service. Vineyard Haven Postmaster Emily Texeira unveiled a commemorative forever stamp celebrating the commitment of our healthcare workers to the island community. A plaque was also presented to symbolize the strength, resilience and dedication of every team member at our hospital. Read more with Vineyard Gazette: http://spklr.io/6042au1k 📷: Ray Ewing

Katherine Smith, PT, DPT, Cert. DN, works with children and families at Martha's Vineyard Hospital to maximize safety and independence with gross motor development, age-appropriate play skills and functional mobility. We asked Katherine to describe her experience as a physical therapist. She has been with the hospital since September 2020, and we thank her for her dedication to the optimal health of our patients. #PhysicalTherapyMonth

Last month, Martha’s Vineyard Hospital participated in the Edgartown School Health Fair and open house. Our team had a great time engaging with students and families, and sharing important information about health, wellness and our community programs. “Events like this remind me how in touch and connected our hospital is to our community,” says Dave Caron, vice president of Diagnostic and Therapeutic Services. “It’s a privilege to develop strong relationships with our patients in these forums; it demonstrates that being visible goes a long way in caring for our community.”

We’re excited to unveil a new collection of historic photographs on display in the corridor between our main lobby and cafeteria. This exhibit, entitled, “A Look into the Past: Photographs from the MV Museum Collection,” was created in partnership with the Martha’s Vineyard Museum. Organized by Anna Barber, curator of exhibitions, and Nyoka Walters, the museum’s first exhibition fellow and a senior at Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School, this collection captures the rich history of Martha's Vineyard.

Thanks to the extraordinary conservation efforts of Mass General Brigham clinicians and staff, we will resume our full procedural schedule starting today, Friday, October 18, without any case deferrals. We will continue to monitor IV fluid usage and supply closely, with conservation measures remaining in place to ensure safe patient care. We appreciate your ongoing support and will keep you updated on any further developments.

Due to a nationwide IV fluid shortage caused by Hurricane Helene, Mass General Brigham regrettably must defer additional scheduled procedures. While we’ve received additional shipments, our current supply is still limited and our projected deliveries of fluids are still insufficient to meet the full demands for care across our system. Thanks to the extraordinary conservation and response efforts of our clinicians and staff, we remain confident in our ability to safely care for all patients who require our immediate care. We will continue to keep you updated as our response continues.

We’re grateful to photographer Michael Blanchard for sharing his recent experience at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. After being admitted for intestinal pain, Michael praised the care he received from Pieter Pil, MD; Peter Hedberg, MD; and Richard Koehler, MD, who provided compassionate and expert treatment, ultimately finding a solution that helped him avoid surgery. He reflected on the kindness of our team, saying, “You don’t know what’s going to happen next, and you have everyone at that hospital, one after another, being so nice. They make you feel like the most important person in that moment.” https://bit.ly/4h5TLX4
