Last week, several of our worlds came together—our MBSG team, a local church, and close friends volunteered some time to give back to a cause that's close to our hearts. If you haven’t heard of Angel Reach in Conroe, let me share a bit about the incredible work they’re doing: Angel Reach stands in the gap for Kinship Families and Youth who have aged out of the foster care system or are at risk of homelessness. Their programs are life-changing, offering everything from a Kinship Program and Transitional Living to a Food Pantry and more. A couple of weeks ago, they received an amazing gift—#PetroleumWholesale donated an 18-wheeler (53-foot trailer) packed with food. It was truly something to see. And with all that food needing to be unloaded, we knew there was no better way for our team to pitch in and help. As we move into the giving season, this experience touched all of us. Recruiting Taught Me the Importance of Empathy. When I began my career in recruiting, I thought success meant simply matching candidates to open positions. But as I spent more time in the field, I realized there’s a deeper aspect to this work: empathy. Life comes with its fair share of ups and downs causing gaps in employment, career changes, or setbacks that just weren’t part of the plan. A candidate may not look ideal for the position on paper, but a person is much more than what’s shown on their resume. I’ve learned to look deeper, understand their story, and appreciate the resilience behind those experiences. Sometimes, all someone needs is an opportunity to prove themselves, a second chance to show they’re capable of greatness.
