Nursing education plays a pivotal role in the healthcare industry, from the initial training of Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) and Home Health Aides (HHAs) to the advanced preparation of Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) and Nurse Practitioners (NPs). Proper education and training for these essential healthcare professionals directly impact the quality of patient care they provide. Without adequate training, the standard of patient care can significantly decline, underscoring the critical need for robust nursing education programs. In the same way that honey bees are essential to our ecosystem, proper nursing training is vital to our healthcare system. Just as honey bees ensure the health and growth of our environment, well-trained nursing professionals ensure the well-being and recovery of patients. Investing in comprehensive and effective nursing education is crucial to maintaining high standards of patient care and overall public health. The healthcare landscape is continually evolving, with advancements in medical technology and changing patient needs requiring highly skilled and adaptable nursing professionals. Nursing education programs must stay abreast of these developments, providing students with up-to-date knowledge, practical skills, and critical thinking abilities. This holistic approach to education not only enhances the competency of nursing professionals but also prepares them to meet the complex demands of modern healthcare. Moreover, the current shortage of nursing professionals highlights the importance of expanding access to quality nursing education. According to recent studies, the demand for CNAs, HHAs, CRNAs, and NPs is projected to grow significantly in the coming years. Addressing this shortage requires targeted efforts to recruit and retain students in nursing programs, particularly in underserved communities. Effective nursing education also plays a crucial role in promoting diversity within the healthcare workforce. By providing opportunities for individuals from diverse backgrounds to enter and advance in the nursing profession, educational programs can help ensure that the healthcare workforce reflects the communities it serves. This diversity is essential for delivering culturally competent care and addressing health disparities. Investing in nursing education is fundamental to improving patient care and public health. By prioritizing the training and development of nursing professionals, we can ensure a resilient and high-quality healthcare system capable of meeting the needs of all patients.

Headlines have been made of #philanthropists giving billions of dollars to support #medical #education - which is fabulous - but why is there not more #philanthropy to #nursing? A friend of mine Tim Raderstorf posted on this a week ago and this article in #STAT has some startling statistics: 1. “Only 1% of the $333 billion given to health care last year from the private sector went to the nursing profession. 2. Likewise, nursing does not receive the same governmental financial support that medical education receives. 3. Unlike graduate medical education, which receives billions of dollars in support from Medicare, Medicaid and others, graduate nursing education receives no such funding. 4. In fact, the U.S. House of Representatives proposed budget decreases funds for nursing education.” None of this bodes well for the future of the nursing workforce. This is why we are fighting for Nursing to be classified as a #STEM profession - it is our only current hope of investment into #nursing. So join us - it is going to take all of us to make change happen. The #CoalitionForNursingIsSTEM submitted a 50 page letter to #DHS for classification. #NursesOnLinkedIn #HealthcareOnLinkedIn #NursingIsSTEM #FutureOfNursing Marion Leary, PhD, MPH, RN Jason Garbarino, DNP, RN, GERO-BC, CNL Imran Oomer #STAT Johnson & Johnson STAT article: https://lnkd.in/eQGFdxgH
