About us
Lawrence General Hospital proudly serves the Merrimack Valley as an independent, non-profit community hospital. One of the largest employers in the area, it is home to more than 180 licensed inpatient beds, about 500 registered nurses, and 450 physicians with privileges. Our team believes in delivering the highest quality health care possible and our list of accreditations verifies that commitment. Housing the most advanced surgical center in the area, Lawrence General provides its team with the best resources available to not only excel in diverse clinical scenarios, but to also extend the career paths for our doctors, nurses, technicians, and other staff. Outside of our main campus in Lawrence, our community hospital also provides ambulatory services at several clinics in Andover, Lawrence, North Andover, and Methuen. Primary care, weight management, laboratory, imaging, OB/GYN, physical therapy, and women’s health are just some of the many growing services we offer in the outpatient environment. In some cases, given Lawrence’s diverse and challenged community, the hospital cares for a vulnerable population. This offers a very unique experience of providing care for patients of higher acuity. These clinical experiences allow our clinicians to practice in scenarios that are as challenging as they are rewarding. Home to one of the busiest Emergency Centers in Massachusetts with over 70,000 visits per year, our emergency and critical care teams are prepared for nearly anything. Our organization stresses the importance of continued education, as we have a robust nursing professional development program. It is not uncommon to find one of our nurses serving as a preceptor. Lawrence General is also home to 40 residents through the Greater Lawrence Family Medicine Residency Program. Contact Human Resources at 978-946-8059 or visit www.lawrencegeneral.org/careers.

Healthcare Quality Week (HQW) was created as a dedicated time to honor the critical role of Quality within healthcare and raise awareness of the impact professionals working in Quality have in their organizations, their communities, and across healthcare. This week (Oct. 20-26) serves as a reminder of the incredible impact that these healthcare professionals have on the lives of our patients. The Lawrence General Quality team’s dedication, passion, and relentless pursuit of excellence have not only elevated Lawrence General’s standards but, more importantly, have positively transformed the lives of those we serve. We are grateful for their exceptional work, unwavering dedication, and compassion. Healthcare Quality Week serves as a fitting reminder of the tremendous impact they make, not just within our organization but within the broader healthcare community.

Several of our Lawrence General Emergency Center team members marked Emergency Nurses Week in a special way when they had the chance to reunite with a patient whose life they saved 11 years ago. Thirteen-year-old Alexandre flew from Houston, Texas, to Lawrence with his mother to finally thank the caregivers who tended to him during one of the scariest moments of his young life. Through tears, his mother shared the story of how caregivers (some pictured here) helped her only son when he struggled to breathe as an infant and was rushed to the Lawrence General emergency room for treatment. Now, Alexandre is healthy, thriving and wants to be a pediatrician one day. Thank you to our team who helped nurse Alexandre back to health. Stories like this are why we do what we do!

What a week it's been for the Lawrence General Hospital team as we welcomed Holy Family Hospital's Methuen and Haverhill campuses into our new regional health care system on Tuesday, Oct. 1. Ribbon-cutting ceremonies marked a crucial step in ensuring that the communities of Methuen and Haverhill have continued access to vital medical services. “We are proud to welcome Holy Family Hospital, its patients, and employees to our new regional health care system,” said Dr. Abha Agrawal, MD, FACP, FACHE, President and CEO of Lawrence General Hospital. “Stronger than the sum of our parts, we will bring high quality, equitable care to our communities with this integration.” The Methuen and Haverhill hospitals were on the brink of closure due to the bankruptcy of Steward Health Care. With strong support from the state and its Massachusetts Executive Office of Health and Human Services, Lawrence General Hospital assumes ownership and operation of the two campuses.
