That’s a wrap on September! Filled with some of my favorite events and great quality time, with even better company. Thanks Coach Felix! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- LaunchTN's #3686Fest in Nashville– 3rd time attending, 2nd as a local, and it just keeps getting better! Huge thanks to LaunchTN for always delivering such an awesome, unique event that is so impactful to our Nashville, TN, and SE ecosystems. A few personal favorite moments: 💃 Building connections at Build In SE & LaunchTN's 6th Annual Comfort Food + Conversation with an exceptional group of women. A heartfelt thank you to Monique, Eller, Kate, Lindsey, Colleen, your teams, and all the amazing women involved, for making this magical event a highlight year after year. 🤠 Crafting custom hats with local female founders and funders, thanks to Meghan and the TriNet team 🏇 .... and even discovering some unexpectedly talented bull-riding investors in our midst 👀 (they know who they are!) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Next up: Venture Atlanta Conference and a few more stops to close out the 2024 conference season (before hibernating for the winter 🐻😅). At Polychrome, one of our calling cards is helping bootstrapped B2B software businesses firmly make the transition into the Enterprise, and working with them to flesh out their teams and develop the workflows to more consistently close higher average contract value (ACV) deals. This is rarely an easy process however, and we frequently encounter founders who are hesitant to fully commit to the transition for fear of some understandable short term losses (more cashflow reinvested into the business, some logo churn, unhappy customers, etc.). There are of course the obvious reasons to push through and commit to the transition. Everyone loves being able to close bigger deals and make more $! But what I think get surprisingly overlooked is value expansion that also happens when a business is able to move upmarket. Our friends at Jurassic Capital just published their fantastic 2024 B2B SaaS Benchmarks Report (full report in comments!), and their slide on Gross Revenue Retention (GRR) highlights this virtuous cycle. GRR is the biggest driver of M&A valuation multiples, and a higher ACV is correlated to a higher GRR, so the bigger your deals are, the better your GRR probably is, which means a better multiple for your business. Or, to put it another way, not every dollar of revenue is created equal, and buyers have a bias for the more consistent Enterprise deals. I think bootstrapped founders can understandably lose the forest for the trees as it relates to this since every $ earned is so precious. But I think it's important to consider how and where that growth is coming from and if it's positioning the business for the best long-term success outcome. I'd be remiss if I didn't take this opportunity to talk up our own portfolio 😉 . I can proudly say that we've been able to work with our portfolio founders to successfully make that transition, and have not only grown topline ARR, but in a way that we know is driving an even greater lift to overall enterprise value.
