This project aimed to increase middle and high school students' awareness of cybersecurity skills and career pathways in various sectors, including the military, academia, and private industry. As the project comes to an end, we have curated this list of best practices to help school districts across the nation replicate and build upon the success of our model, which has impacted more than 100 teachers and 15,000 students. 🔦✨Learning Community Spotlight!✨🔦 Ignited's one-hour online Learning Community seminars provide opportunities for teachers to learn about careers directly from industry professionals and explore strategies to bring this insight back to their students. At our February 2024 "Hiring Now! Panel Discussion," teachers learned about sought-after skills and hiring resources available in industry from experts like Laurel Hanchett, a Recruiter at Valley Water. Speaking about how recruiters find qualified candidates, Laurel said: "Durable skills are so important when it comes to the interview. A lot of the questions we ask look for durable skills, but we do it in kind of a roundabout way...Definitely look at yourself and pick out what your top durable skills are and maybe your weakest, and then talk about it, build a story around that to make sure you're emphasizing these during your interview. Knowing them and showing the interview panel that you know yourself well enough to talk about it I think goes a long way...Technical skills get you in the door, and durable skills get you hired."
