October 20 – 26 is Pro Bono Week! As a “pro bono first” organization, Her Justice’s work is powered by volunteer attorneys who advocate with clients pursuing new beginnings. To celebrate, we’re recognizing some of the tremendous attorneys who donate their time and expertise to our organization.    Rounding us out, Thomas Napoli of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP emphasizes the civil justice system’s role in determining a client’s ability to create a safe home for herself and her children.    Pro bono work is vital year-round! On average, Her Justice trains and mentors approximately 2,000 attorneys each year – all contributing to the work of building safer, stronger futures for women and families in New York City.     Learn more and support work like Thomas’ here: https://lnkd.in/djj7GMC

To celebrate, we’re recognizing some of the tremendous attorneys who donate their time and expertise to our organization.     Today we’re featuring Cecile Weis who highlights the impact it has for clients to have a lawyer by their side in court.    When the civil justice system delivers fair outcomes, women’s lives improve in meaningful ways – including higher income, better access to safe housing, and a likeliness to engage in other help-seeking behaviors to keep themselves and their families safe and healthy.     Curious to know more? Read about these findings in Her Justice’s policy report: Stories from Immigrant Survivors of Gender-Based Violence: The Impact of Work Authorization.    Support work like Cecile’s by donating to our Shift The Power Campaign: https://lnkd.in/djj7GMC

It’s time to Shift The Power! Her Justice is raising $1 MILLION by December 31st. Will you join us?     Our campaign is a promise to our clients – 90% of whom are women of color, 80% of whom are survivors of intimate partner violence, and 70% of whom are mothers –that they are not alone through their legal journey, and a new day is on the horizon.    This fall also brings a new beginning for the organization itself as we welcome our new Executive Director, Alexia Korberg.    This season, we’ll be sharing the many ways our work and your support bring a new day for women and families in New York City.   Donate and learn more: https://lnkd.in/djj7GMC #ShiftThePower2024

During Hispanic Heritage Month, we’re celebrating an important part of our Her Justice community – the vibrant, resilient Hispanic and Latina women who make up over half of our clients.    Earlier this year, our client Emilia shared the story of what work authorization has meant for her with policymakers in Washington, DC as part of Her Justice’s congressional briefing tour.     We invite you to stand in solidarity with women like Emilia and explore our original policy report “Stories from Immigrant Survivors of Gender-Based Violence: The Impact of Work Authorization.” There you can read about real women whose stories illustrate how reform is both urgent and possible.
