HCA Florida Healthcare colleagues have selflessly served our patients, communities and each other throughout Hurricanes #Helene and #Milton. To care for and support our colleagues, HCA Healthcare has supplied essential resources such as water, fuel, food and hygiene items so they could continue to care for patients across the Sunshine State. HCA Healthcare established the HCA Healthcare Hope Fund to support colleagues in disasters such as this. The Hope Fund is a colleague-run, colleague-supported 501(c)(3) charity that provides financial aid to employees after an extended illness, injury, disaster or other special situation. To date, the Hope Fund has given more than $834,000 in grants to help over 1,000 HCA Healthcare colleagues in Florida impacted by the recent storms. "Having these resources available for our HCA Florida Healthcare family lets our caregivers know that we are taking care of them and their families, so they can show up and provide outstanding care and emotional support to our patients," said Joe Rudisill, chief executive officer at HCA Florida Englewood Hospital in Sarasota County. As we continue to support Florida following these natural disasters, we are grateful to our dedicated colleagues for their unwavering commitment to the care and improvement of human life. Thank you for making our hospitals a place of healing and hope for the communities we serve. #CareLikeFamily

Prescription drug abuse is the nation’s fastest-growing drug problem and affects all age groups. Community members can play a vital role in reducing prescription drug misuse by disposing of expired or unnecessary prescription drugs. On Saturday, October 26, 2024, help HCA Healthcare hospitals across the nation #CrushTheCrisis by cleaning out your medicine cabinet and safely disposing of medications that may be left over from previous procedures or other medical visits. We’re teaming up with local law enforcement for this event in support of the Drug Enforcement Administration's National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. Across HCA Healthcare, emergency room (ER) nurses care for patients who are facing traumatic or severe, often life-threatening medical emergencies, ranging from car accidents to strokes and heart attacks. Annually, HCA Healthcare hospitals see more than 9 million ER visits. During each of these visits, emergency nurses, like HCA Florida Healthcare’s Rashuan Spencer, are trained to act decisively in critical situations and provide expert skill with compassion. From a young age, Rashuan felt drawn to pursue a career that was focused on helping others. He has fulfilled that dream by becoming a nurse and for two years, he has been providing patient-centered care in HCA Florida North Florida Hospital’s emergency room. The Gainesville, Florida hospital offers full-service emergency care for adult and pediatric patients. While assessing each patient’s needs when they come into the ER, Rashuan also strives to connect with each patient to bring them ease and comfort. Prior to becoming an ER nurse, Rashuan joined HCA Healthcare’s Specialty Training Apprenticeship for Registered Nurses (StaRN) program. This year-long graduate residency program is designed to give students a hands-on experience, helping establish valuable clinical and critical thinking skills. “The StarRN program was very beneficial for my start,” Rashuan shared. “This really helped me take what I learned in nursing school and apply it to real life situations.” Earlier this month, we were proud to celebrate Emergency Nurses Week. Please join us in thanking emergency nurses, like Rashuan, for their dedication to providing lifesaving care each day. #PositiveImpact #HCANursing

This Saturday, October 26, 2024, we will host our sixth annual “Crush the Crisis” national prescription drug take back day. This year, 133 HCA Healthcare facilities across the country will partner with local law enforcement to help communities safely and anonymously dispose of unused or expired medications. Held each year, in alignment with the Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, HCA Healthcare holds “Crush the Crisis” events to raise awareness about the dangers of prescription drug misuse and the importance of proper disposal of unused or expired medications. “Take back events, like ‘Crush the Crisis,’ support the essential work of curbing the nationwide issue of prescription drug misuse,” said Dr. Randy Fagin, chief medical officer of HCA Healthcare’s National Group. “As we go into our sixth year, I am proud of our ongoing work as an organization to support our community needs today and help shape a healthier tomorrow.”    Learn more about the impact of our “Crush the Crisis” initiative and find an event location near you: https://bit.ly/3UlV4r9. #TakeBackDay #HealthierTomorrows

In the aftermath of the recent hurricanes, we continue to see the best of humanity shine through. Taylor McCaulley, a nurse manager at Mission Hospital, was one of hundreds of dedicated colleagues that served our patients when Hurricane #Helene reached Western North Carolina. Throughout her 15-year nursing career, Taylor shared that she had never faced a moment like Hurricane Helene. She credits the extraordinary acts of service and teamwork displayed by her fellow Mission Health colleagues as essential to bringing patients and the community through the storm. “You never want to be in a situation where you're seeing all these people hurting physically and emotionally, but then on the other hand, you're seeing all of these staff members that are coming in just to truly save the day,” Taylor shares. “It’s mind-blowing how far HCA Healthcare’s reach is. Not just for colleagues but the community.” To our HCA Healthcare colleagues, like Taylor, thank you for your ongoing commitment to the care and improvement of human life. You inspire us all. #CareLikeFamily #HCANursing

At HCA Healthcare’s annual Awards of Distinction, we were honored to recognize one physician with the Frist Humanitarian Award, established in 1971 and named in honor of HCA Healthcare co-founder Dr. Thomas F. Frist. This award honors one physician recipient annually who demonstrates a level of commitment and care that goes beyond everyday acts of kindness and inspires others through their compassion and dedication. Dr. Jonathan Jacobs, internist at HCA Healthcare’s Menorah Medical Center, was named this year’s Frist Humanitarian Award physician recipient. Dr. Jacobs’ care extends beyond the walls of his Overland Park, Kansas hospital. In addition to practicing as an internal medicine physician, Dr. Jacobs can often be found caring for his community’s most vulnerable population. He is both a board member and the medical director of Care Beyond the Boulevard, an organization dedicated to providing high-quality medical and mental health care to the unhoused and under-served populations of Kansas City. Dr. Jacobs is also a devoted volunteer and spends almost 100 hours a year caring for patients through this organization. “Dr. Jacobs embodies the Frist Humanitarian Award,” shared Kirk McCarty, chief executive officer of Menorah Medical Center. “He truly has put patients above everything else, and he ensures that he’s doing whatever he can to take care of the people that don’t have access to care.” Learn more about Dr. Jacobs and the profound impact he makes in the lives of others in “HCA Healthcare Magazine”: https://bit.ly/3BFz2sY. #PositiveImpact #HCAHealthcareMag

During Hurricane #Milton, our HCA Florida Healthcare colleagues demonstrated incredible resilience and dedication as they provided uninterrupted care to our patients — including new moms that were welcoming babies into the world during the storm. At HCA Florida St. Lucie Hospital, one of our tiny patients was given a special name upon making his grand debut during this unforgettable moment — Liam Milton. Proud parents Luisa and Christiano welcomed their new baby boy at the Port St. Lucie hospital on October 9, during Hurricane Milton. “I had already chosen Liam for his name and my husband was going to choose his middle name,” Luisa shared. “Because of the hurricane, he chose Milton.” Across HCA Healthcare, we proudly deliver over 218,000 babies annually. We are grateful for our HCA Healthcare family who provide exceptional care for babies, like Liam Milton, with compassion. Please join us in congratulating Luisa and Christiano on the newest addition to their family! #CareLikeFamily #HCABabies
