  • On Friday, September 13th, Grunley was honored to attend the illumination ceremony unveiling “A Soldier’s Journey” at our recently completed National WWI Memorial in Washington, D.C. project. Sculpted by Sabin Howard, the 58-foot bas relief sculpture depicts the experience of one American soldier in 38 separate figures. Starting from the left, the soldier takes leave of his wife and daughter, charges into combat, and returns home to his family. Now available for visitors to experience, it is the largest freestanding high relief bronze sculpture in the Western Hemisphere! It was a privilege to serve as the general contractor for this sacred site, dedicated to honoring the sacrifice of more than four million Americans who served during World War I. This moment stands as a reminder of their heroism and the importance of preserving history for future generations. Grunley is honored to have played a role in bringing this enduring tribute to life.

  • Hey, it’s ConstructSean, back for another installment of “One-Liners with ConstructSean”. Today, I’m visiting 1901 L Street, NW in Washington, DC. This one-of-a-kind Class A office building is the first multi-tenant office building in Washington, DC to receive a WELL Building Certification, a standard grounded in medical research that explores the connection between buildings and the well-being of their occupants. The WELL Standard embodies seven concepts which include air, water, nourishment, light, fitness, comfort, and mind. With 100% outside air circulating throughout, and sustainable materials used through construction, 1901 L Street, NW now ranks as one of the healthiest and most energy efficient buildings in Washington, DC.   In 2020, Grunley completed the 261,500 SF repositioning to deliver a new, state-of-the-art, Class A office building. The project scope included renovation of the building's existing eight stories, the addition of three stories, and a new glass façade. The repositioning and expansion also included a new lobby, reconfigured central core, new elevators, all new building MEP systems, new streetscape, and added amenities, including a fitness center and penthouse conference center. We hope you enjoyed today’s stop and that you follow along to see where ConstructSean visits next time!
