On Friday, September 13th, Grunley was honored to attend the illumination ceremony unveiling “A Soldier’s Journey” at our recently completed National WWI Memorial in Washington, D.C. project. Sculpted by Sabin Howard, the 58-foot bas relief sculpture depicts the experience of one American soldier in 38 separate figures. Starting from the left, the soldier takes leave of his wife and daughter, charges into combat, and returns home to his family. Now available for visitors to experience, it is the largest freestanding high relief bronze sculpture in the Western Hemisphere! It was a privilege to serve as the general contractor for this sacred site, dedicated to honoring the sacrifice of more than four million Americans who served during World War I. This moment stands as a reminder of their heroism and the importance of preserving history for future generations. Grunley is honored to have played a role in bringing this enduring tribute to life.
