About us
The Global Down Syndrome Foundation is a public 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to significantly improving the lives of people with Down syndrome through Research, Medical Care, Education and Advocacy. Founded in 2009, Global has the primary focus of supporting the Linda Crnic Institute for Down Syndrome, the first academic home in the U.S. committed to research and medical care for people with the condition, and the Anna and John J. Sie Center for Down Syndrome at Children's Hospital Colorado, the largest multidisciplinary team focused on medical care for pediatric and adolescent patients with Down syndrome in the U.S. Fundraising and government advocacy that corrects the alarming disparity of national funding for people with Down syndrome is a major short-term goal. Global organizes the Be Beautiful Be Yourself Fashion Show -- the single-largest annual fundraiser benefiting people with Down syndrome -- and the Be Beautiful Be Yourself DC Gala. Programmatically, Global organizes and funds many programs and conferences, including the Dare to Play Football and Cheer Camps, Global Down Syndrome Educational Series, and Be Beautiful Be Yourself Dance Program. Global is an inclusive organization without political or religious affiliation or intention.

🌟 EXCITING news coming your way! 🌟 GLOBAL is thrilled to share that the U.S. House of Representatives plans to vote tomorrow night, Tuesday 9/17, on the DeOndra Dixon INCLUDE Project Act (H.R. 7406) to authorize increased funding for Down syndrome research from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Named in honor of GLOBAL Ambassador DeOndra Dixon, this Act would ensure that the Down syndrome community continues to be prioritized in federal health research initiatives, especially those under the NIH INCLUDE Project. Specifically, it would boost funding for five-year periods and ultimately ensure a $250 million/year cap. Learn more: https://bit.ly/3ArbCao We are so grateful for our Congressional Champions, Reps. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, Diana DeGette, Rosa DeLauro, Tom Cole, Pete Stauber, Eleanor Holmes Norton, and David Trone, as well as our amazing advocates and self-advocates—we could not do this without YOU! 🙌 👀 Stay tuned for our updates on this legacy bill. We can’t wait to share the good news 🤞 and let you in on our plans to ensure the U.S. Senate also acts on the bill so it can be signed into law by the end of the year! #downsyndromerocks #dsrocks #downsyndromelove #downsyndromeawareness #t21 #downsyndromeresearch #globalrocks #downsyndromeworld #downsyndrome #nonprofit #denvernonprofit #disabilityinclusion #disabilityawareness #disabilityrights #congress

👏 👏 A round of applause for Abby, the star of the 2024 Annual Crnic Symposium! 👏 👏 Abby presented to over 150 researchers, clinicians, and trainees about the importance of involving people with Down syndrome in their work. We are so grateful for amazing self-advocates like Abby who gladly participate in research in the name of helping others. ❤️ Abby was joined by GLOBAL’s VP of research & medical care, Bryn Gelaro, who discussed our advocacy in Washington, DC , which resulted in the creation of the NIH’s INCLUDE project, and the importance of the DeOndra Dixon INCLUDE Project Act. What that knowledge gave us was that the amyloid deposit is really an important starting place in all Alzheimer's disease, and that has informed the development of many of the diagnostics and the treatments for typical Alzheimer's disease that would also help people with Down syndrome.” GLOBAL is proud to be the lead national advocacy organization that catalyzed the establishment of the INCLUDE Project, a Trans-NIH Down syndrome research program that funds hundreds of game-changing clinical trials across the country. #downsyndromerocks #dsrocks #downsyndromelove #downsyndromeawareness #t21 #globalrocks #downsyndromeworld #downsyndrome #nonprofit #denvernonprofit #downsyndromeresearch
